Just spent 45 minutes cleaning my PelPro pellet stove for the third time this week, where before I could go a week.
Turned stove on has run for few minutes and already glass is blackened ,this is the second season I have noticed bad pellets, I think this will be my last batch from "Heartland" it is certainly not like the product I started with, very disapointed

I have used Heartland for several years with no complaints until last year I had several bags that really were sooty, and geasey , thought it would clear up, it did when I used the last bag of that bag.
started out this year fine until two days ago again sooty, and greasey, the smoke smelled like creosote was burning, makes me wonder if the claims by the company is true about only hardwood is used in production, I have heard of others that have had the same problem, come on Spearfish, at one time you had a great product

Very dissatisfied with the quality of bag this year about every other bag we picked up tore a spilled pellets all over.... if it didn't tear immediately it tore half way down the stairs! Please increase the quality of bags you use!

We have been burning Heartland pellets for many years in our Harman stove. The pellets are short enough so our auger doesn't "whine". Some other brands' are too long and our auger will "whine" and it's more than annoying. So Heartland checks off that box. Only problem we have burning Heartland is the DIRTY GLASS. I just assumed this was par for the course. Until we tried half a dozen bags of Black Gold pellets this year. No black, totally clear glass. First bag of Heartland, in just a few hours, black. Not happy. We probably won't buy Heartland ever again.

I have an American Harvest stove I’ve been burning Heartland pellets for about 5 years with no problems at all great heat I haven’t emptied the ash pan going on 2 yrs yes it has been 2yrs so I guess the ash is going up the chimney. Last March I needed a couple more bags of pellets so I tried a hardwood kind from Tractor Supply it was very little heat and a lot of sparks going up the chimney never again

I have two stoves and burn about three tons/year of Spearfish pellets exclusively. They burn flawlessly.

Unfortunately, I had one problem last winter of a jammed auger. Disassembly found a brand new shiny double head masonry spike. I blew it off as a fluke.

Bought three tons again this fall and just had a second jammed auger. This time it was a square head drywall screw.

Since I use neither of these types of hardware, where are they coming from? I only open one bag at a time and consume it before opening the next bag. I have tried to find someone at Spearfish to discuss this issue but can't find a website or get a real human to answer a phone.

had three ton delivered to my home from a local building center. have used them in the past, they are dirty and soot up the glass. this year i had swelled up bags of pellets and lots of them from all three pallets. the full pallets were wrapped in plastic and kept outside at the yard but that's how everyone stores them. bags of swelled up pellets were all over in the pallet top to bottom which tells me that heartland has some kind of problem at their factory. the building center has exchanged the swelled up bags so that's good. i have not contacted heartland because i suspected that the building center would so don't know the exact problem but this will be the last year i will use their pellets, too dirty, too swelled up and there are other brands available here that are better for the same price.

the best money spent for pellet heating is this brand. I drive 40 miles just to get one bag if I needed too

Discovered Heartland pellets halfway through the 2013 heating season. Burned great.

Local dealer could not get them in 2014. Tried to burn 3 tons of AWP junk. Terrible pettets. Size variation up to 3,25" in length!

Dealer got Heartland again this year. Bought one ton and they burn flawlessly in my two stoves. Going to buy three more tons next week.

    MagnuM Countryside 3500P.
    NW IOWA
I just bought this stove 2 months ago,
I ran 5 bags of INDECK ENERGY Pellets throgh it and worked verry good hardly no ash.
So i thought i would try something differant. The local farm store had HEARTLAND FROM SPEARFISH SD
They burn good and hot but alot of cinders and black soot. Halfway through the first bag the auger was making a dry sqauking niose just got worse as went along. So i shut it down. The next morning i went to pull the auger out and had a hard time getting it out. I cleaned the stove and changed back to INDECK and no more soot and noise the went away.
2 weeks later my local store didnt have INDECK so went to the other place and got a few bags of the heartland. and now an hour after running them i have the auger noise again. sounds like something that needs oiled. You also can tell that the motor is working harder to turn the auger. I guess i can't burn these HEARTLAND PELLETS in my MagnuM Countryside 3500P
TO BADD they burn hot but very sooty and maybe creosote making the noise?
