Other then waxy smell what causes the odor from these pellets? You just open a bag and then entire house has an odor that takes your breath away. It is not the stove it is when you open the bag, is there anything you suggest to do? Thank you
I have a Quadrafire Classic. Bought the Green Supreme from Lowes and burned through a pallet. They were hot, almost no ash. Very good. Went back for more and they only had North American. In my stove, they are terrible. Can't go 12 hours sometimes, unbelieveable ash buildup and it is constantly on, which was not the case with the G.S. Very sorry I spent my money. Now it is March and I need one more ton but I refuse to buy those again. I have to take out the ash daily or it gets so high it is almost to the top of the firepot. With the G.S. I got a few spoonfuls.
I have tried two brands of pellets from Lowes this year. Green Supreme which is a Hardwood blend pellet and North American which is a Hardwood/Softwood blend. I liked Green Supreme and was going to buy four plts worth but Lowes was out. The next brand that came in was North American. I was very skeptical because I have tried wood blends and Softwood pellets in the past and found Hardwood pellets to be the best choice. I usually use Somerset pellets but they were on back order this year. North American have great heat output, little ash and virtually no clinkers. I bought nine plts for this year and next. Brands to stay away from: Stove Chow, Inferno, Freedom Fuel, Maines Choice, Clear choice, any pellets made by Pennington. Brands I have had good results from are Lignetics(Green and white bag), Appalachian Hardwood, Somerset, Green Supreme, and of course North American. I have had a Quadrafire Mt Vernon stove for eight years. Great stove by the way.
