Worst pellet ever ! Burning pellet for 6 years and never experienced this much ash and lack of heat ! I normally clean once a month but with cheat river pellet its once a week. Wish i could light a bonfire and get rid of them all in one night. Never again !
At the start of the cold season I tried a few bags of cheat river pellets and they worked great. We bought two pallets to make sure we had enough for the winter. We are about 1/4 thru the first pallet and we are not so happy with the pellets now. There is a lot of ash build up that requires us to turn the stove off about every other day. In the winter that is to often to have the stove turned off to cool down and clean because of inferior pellets. The worst problem with these pellets is that many of the pellets are no cut properly and are to long to feed thru the auger properly. This plugs up the auger and the pellet stove shuts down and it needs to be unclogged before we can use it again. Very dissapointed with the pellets and will not be buying this brand again.
Question: I’m looking for wood pellets that do not have an accellerant-does anyone know if cheat river pellets at lowes have it? I’m not using for a stove, but for rabbit litter pans…I know, sounds wacky…. 🙂 I’m just wanting to be sure they do not have any fuel like chemical on them, and I’m very new to understanding wood pellets… Thank you for your help!
I have a P43 Harman stove and have been burning Greene Pellets and ran out of pellets. Bought Cheat River pellets at Lowes. Cheat River pellets have a greater mass of ash and a smell on the bags stink. I have burned four tons of Green pellets and after trying Cheat River I’m going back.
The worst pellets we’ve used yet. We got them once when first using the pellet stove and had a lot of problems with the stove. Because we’d just inherited the stove when we bought the house, we assumed it was a problem with the stove. We then bought loads of other brands of pellets, as we were buying whatever we could find at Lowe’s and Home Depot, because all pellets were sold out regularly. Well, this time we got 25 bags of Cheat River and the stove keeps getting clogged by these dirty, cheap pellets. Now it’s been off since last night because my husband got fed up with cleaning the stove repeatedly and all the trouble the pellets have caused, when the stove was working fine with the other brands of pellets. I wish we could get our money back and buy better pellets, because I don’t know how we’ll keep the stove working with these ones. Thank god we have back up propane heat or we’d be in trouble. CHEAT River pellets are aptly named. I recommend you avoid them. PS – these were NOT cheap, at $5.00 a bag!
We have gone through alot of brands of pellets through home depot, lowes. I have found the Cheat River brand wood pellets are superb compared to the others. They last much, much longer and little ash. If I could find a place that sold that brand, i would definately go there to purchase. Great pellets
Hello, during a recent shortage of pellets I purchased 15 bags of cheat river pellets from tractor supply. I am using an englander stove. With out a doubt the worst pellets I have ever used, lots and lots of ashe and almost no heat. I have tried multiple settings on the stove and still garbage. Save your money and buy anything else.
Tried 5 different brands of pellets this year and these are by FAR the best of the ones I’ve tried. A lot less ash than the other 4 brands. Did not have much choice as to which brands I could try because I got my Stove in mid January and had a hard time finding pellets at that point but got lucky yesterday at Lowes as they had 22 tons delivered so I bought 1 ton and am happy with them.
I use whitfield profile 20. I have used a lot of pellets in 9 years but these pellets are garbage. They don,t burn completly and soot up fast. i will be retuning mine.
I run a new Englander 25EP pellet stove. have tried many brands this year lookin for the brand that works the best. recently I purchased 20 bags of cheat river premium hardwood pellets and right away noticed the difference in color. cheat river are much darker pellet then any I have burned. the burn began normal and good heat but a few hours in the pot began to fill with ash as did the heat chamber and ash pan. far more ash then I have seen yet in my stove. within 6 hours I was forced to empty my burn pot because it was building up and trying to burn in my pellet shoot. I tried these due to a shortage in wood pellets in my area as no one in this area uses them. lesson learned. im going to try to mix them with pure fire or Instant heat as I have had great luck with both of these brands. Cheat creek seems to live up to its name as they do not burn like a good hard wood pellet.
