These are the averages for 48 weekly Goldenfire samples sent into Twin Ports Labs between July 1, 2012 and July 1 2013. The same as last year, I could send you a single test that would be amazing. However, we prefer to show our average because it is not just the good values that set us apart, it is the consistency. Please note that the Heating Value as received is even higher and the ash content even lower than last year.
Moisture Content: | 2.136% |
Ash Content: | 0.15% |
Heating Value – As Received: | 8527 Btu/lb |
Heating Value – Moisture Free: | 8713 Btu/lb |
Bear Mountain is same as our Goldenfire brand except we can mix up to 5% Western Red Cedar with the Douglas fir. We cannot detect a difference in testing other than a very slight increase in ash and an equally slight increase in heating value.
For more than 25 years Golden Fire Wood Fuel Pellets has set the industry’s GOLD STANDARD of wood pellet fuel. Our time-tested consistent production methods ensure that every bag you purchase contains the lowest moisture content, highest heat and lowest ash wood pellet fuel available because we hand select our raw materials ensuring that each and every pellet is made from 100% Douglas Fir.
You won’t find another pellet that is dried to our industry leading low moisture content of less than 2.5%, and unprecedented average of only 1.9%! Less moisture means you don’t have to burn off excess water in the pellets which results in more heat, heating your home faster, and an extremely low ash content that makes it easier to cleanup. Check out more details below and remember that when you’re heating with wood pellets, you’re leaving a smaller carbon footprint which means great things for our environment.
Summary
I LOVE THESE PELLETS! I hope that even under the new ownership I get spoiled with these arriving in the mail again. I need to update the pics and info…

When I cleaned my augur it was full of sawdust from the bags of Golden Fire which we have used for 23 years. They are 80 dollars a ton more than Greentree pellets from the Placerville, CA fruit grower. We changed due to price and poor performance of the pellets from 2021. Filthy glass every day and cleaning much more often.

Once good, now crap
Have been using Golden Fire pellets for 1 years no and they have always been great. No problems whatsoever.
This year I have horrible clinkers on a near daily basis, tons of ash. Is there a rating lower than 1?

Golden Fire leave a LOT more ash than Bear Mountain.
We have used Bear Mountain Pellets for 22 years and have absolutely love the product – heats well with little ash. Wilco substituted Golden Fire wood pellets for the Bear Mountain pellets in our last purchase. I do not notice an increase in heat produced, but the Gold Fire pellets leave behind a LOT more ash in our Austroflamm wood pellet stove. We ran our pellet stove for approximately 3 days and had 10 days worth of our usual ash. We won’t be purchasing Golden Fire again.

What happened in 2021?
Until this winter 2021-2022 we loved loved loved using golden fire pellets. Always had a nice clean burning hot fire. No longer! This years bags are total trash, the bags are flimsy, we could barely unload them without taping the bag together. Pellets everywhere. We even returned some to the store for replacement. We should have returned the whole ton. The pellets themselves have disintegrated, are full of sand and dirt. We must clean our stove at least once a day, sometimes twice. Used to be weekly. The giant clinkers even have melted glass in
them! We’ve used golden fire pellets for 30 years, I’ll find another product next year.

must be bad this year, switching brands
I wanted to like these, as they are always rated very well. I’m sad to say that after I ordered 2 pallets worth they are the worst pellets I have ever burned. Tons of super fine dust that gets everywhere when I open the bags and I have to shut my stove down multiple times a day to chisel out huge clinkers. I am going to return what I can and get another brand.

Time to switch brands
I have been a Golden Fire Pellet user for 25+ years. Lopi stove – 20 years. Ravelli RV80 – 4 years. Best stove made but doesn’t like Golden Fire. Daily cleaning of glass, ash pan, interior walls and pellet pot. Pellet pot 50% clogged after 4 hours of use daily.
Am switching to HEAT’RS brand now and first bag left almost clean glass, very little ash and most importantly, the pellet pot had no holes plugged. No stove settings were changed from Golden Fire to HEAT’RS brand pellets. Last but not least, 1 bag of Golden Fire left 1 cup of powder in hopper every bag. 1 bag of HEAT’RS, maybe a teaspoon.

Are they going downhill?
Always had good luck with this product but the last bag I opened the bottom quarter was nothing but sawdust. I honestly dont know if it was production or handling but the bag was on the upper third of the pallet. I think I may have to look for another brand.

Stay away from Bear Mountain pellets. I used them for several years with no problem. this year about 1 in five bags had a tear that needed patching before the bag could be moved; they must have gone to a different quality bag. The pallet they came on was broken, had bent over nails and the slats didn’t even reach the support beams.

More Golden Fire PLEASE!!
My husband is disabled and we LOVE Golden Fire wood pellets!! They burn better, cleaner, and hotter, and they last longer too. Makes the wood pellet stove a much easier chore. We just wish LOWES would be able to get these more often. Finding something similar is difficult. Much less cleaning and loading.
