I bought a half ton of these from Menards just in case I run low on Somersets before they stop selling pellets for the season. I’ve burned 10 bags and will save the other ten bags to mix with good pellets, just to get them used up. The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the strong smell of pine. I didn’t expect that from a bag labeled “Premium Hardwood Pellets”. They burned okay for me and seemed to heat well enough but they were the dirtiest pellets I’ve ever burned, lots of soot buildup and the most ashes I’ve ever cleaned out of my stove. I would buy them again if I had to, but only as a last resort.
I purchased a ton of the Indeck wood pellets after trying out several bags purchased from Lowes and finding that I have never burned a better product. I have used Somerset, Greenway and Ozark Hardwood pellets and found none of them compare to Indeck. The BTU’s of this product is much better than the competition and ash is almost non-existent. I have already recommended Indeck to all of my pellet-burning friends and hope that these pellets are available next year. I have read some of the previous reviews and wonder if Indeck has changed their product.
worst pellets ever, Low heat, high ash, full of unburned pellets. Fire glass so black with soot, I first though fire went out, Went out tonight, notice strong smell. Former wood burning chimney, smoking almost as bad as wood fire. Pefer Somersets and greenways. only have a half hopper to go with these lousey things. will never be in my stove again. ever.
I have no issues with these pellets. Very little fines and a solid pellet if you try breaking them in your hand. The pellet itself are on the smaller side, but i see no issue with that. I have great fly ash and my glass on my stove stays clean for several days. My pelpro stove loves these pellets i will continue buying these since my stove loves eating them.
I have a pelpro 130 and have only burned indeck pellets due to availability of pellets in my area. They take slight more draft to burn and generally leave a white soot. The odd smell that some have mentioned is creosote most likely. I have found that when I clean my chimney pipe there is a fair amount in there, more than I have seen from other brands in the past. Also from time to time i have found creosote residue in the burn pot. Other than that, I have found no issues with burning these. Like others have said I do have to empty or clean the fire pot pretty much daily and vacuum out the ash completely about every two days. I have no issues with any high amounts of unburned pellets or fines/dust, they seem to be pretty clean and uniform coming out of the bag. I would definitely try other brands if I could locate any locally as these may be inexpensive, they do seem to be higher maintenance in regards to cleaning.
I bought 3 ton of these pellets. I have a Harmon stove and went from emptying my stove and cleaning every 2 weeks to every 5 days. The ash was so high inside my stove it was laying on the glass. The heat is average compared to other brands. TSC will take them back but who wants to load them back up. And do that much work to exchange. I will never buy that many pellets that I know nothing about.
Burning in a Enviro M-55 cast these are the worst pellets ever. Granted, they burn hot but these are a blended pellet and seem to burn significantly faster than hardwood pellets. They also leave way more ash and the clinkers are beyond comparison. I have never spent so much time cleaning the stove. This is my first time with a blend and if they are all like this then never again. They also have a strong pine smell have to wonder what the blend percentage is.
I bought 10 bags of these pellets at Tractor Supply and had to return 8 bags for a refund. Worst pellets I have ever bought. I have an Ashley pellet stove and the heat on the control panel using pellets made in Holland, Michigan would hang around 80-84 degrees and house temp 70 degrees. With these pellets the control panel would read 90+ degrees and the house temp. 75 degrees. Way too hot. I was not impressed with the amount of ash either. Back to buying Michigan Wood Fuels
Burning in a Quad Sante Fe. I’m kind of torn on these pellets. I’d say they are average to slightly above. Positives. The first bag I burned, I went straight from burning Lignetics and the room temp went up 2 degrees with these with the stove on low. I get good heat from them. There are virtually no fines in my bags. No issues with Clinkers.
Negatives. They make a lot of ash. They have a “different” smell. I don’t find it offensive, but it is a stronger smell than I’m used to.
