Summary
Sept 2019 – Got the bag in the mail a few weeks ago and put them in the hopper ASAP. Once the nights started to get colder these were a Blazin!. Fantastic pellet as usual! these are always one of my favs. Hardwood flooring companies can put out some of the best pellets. Kiln dried oak is always a pleaser. If you like these pellets then also check out Turman wood pellets or Greenway wood pellets.
I love these pellets. When you can find them at Depot, GRAB THEM!

Best pellets ever
Somerset wood pellets are by far the best wood pellets out there I’ve had my pellet stove for 13 years and can’t find them this year it sucks

+1 as an disappointed customer of Somerset pellets and even more unhappy with their customer service response which was delayed and unwilling to acknowledge a problem or do anything to remedy the situation. I wish I could post a picture of my clogged firepot that after one bag clogs so badly that my fire was choked out. Going back to Thurman pellets and/or White Lightning brand as I have had great luck with both.
UPDATE: Bought my pellets from Tractor Supply who I just called the Morganton NC store and they report they are no longer carrying Somerset (no surprise there) and offered to take back the rest of my unused Somerset bags for their “house brand.” I’ll give those a try and post results.
Lesson learned: the sun has set on any idea of ever buying Somerset again. Poor quality and every worse customer support – run, don’t walk from this company and three cheers for Tractor Supply who is fundamentally customer focused, a philosophy that Somerset should adopt.
I agree with Robert January 2018 I bought two tons and probably the first ton was great but the 2nd ton does not burn throughly and builds up in burn pot maybe moisture
I very happily burned 2 tons of somerset last year. No issues. Best of the 3 brands we tried on our new Harman P35i. Our 1st ton this year burned the same. 2nd ton I’m not getting the heat I used too and 4x the ash. I keep track of how well the stove burns with an infrared camera. It doesn’t lie. Something significantly drifted in their process and quality.
I have to disagree..Now I don’t know if I got a bad batch..or they May have have got some moisture in them..But all they have done is clog my burn pot..they don’t burn all the way leavining piles of unburnt stubs filling up my burn pot..we just got another brand and started using them with no problems..but now i i have a half ton of saw dust sitting in my garage..not happy with somerset brand
Great fuel. I’ve used numerous different brands and yesterday when I stopped at the local Tractor Supply to see what they had this season I smiled a little when I saw this brand was in stock. The quality is always there. Low ash, nice burn, and the pallets are well protected. Our local store always stores them indoors which helps tremendously. As long as I can find them, this will always be my first choice. Our stove is a King.
Are your hardwood pellets suitable for use in pellet smokers or bbq?
Thank You, John
These are my referred brand. I will pay more, if necessary, for Somerset than most any other brand I find. Problem is, around here, everybody shifts brands every shipment they get!
I Have owned an Englander 25PDVC since 2007. Have not had propane delivered since (8 years). Pellet stove is best thing since sliced bread, I tell everyone I know. I have burned many different pellets and SOMERSET are by far the best I have found. They are my benchmark for trying other pellets. I would recommend these pellets to anyone. My stove sometimes needs fine tuning on level 1-2 depending on pellet length, but for the most part I only run it on these levels. I can’t speak for all stoves but mine is very easy to dial in. I would use all these pellets again but will spend the little extra for Somerset. I have burned the following pellets (rated in order of preference)
1. Somerset 8 Tons 2007, 2010, 2011, 2014
2. Atlas (Premium Red Fir) Only found one year and they were great very long pellets though (1 Ton) 2009
3. American Wood Fibers (2 Ton) 2008
4. Kentucky Kernel (1 Ton) 2010
5. Stove Chow (1 Ton) 2013
6. Prest-o-Logs (1 Ton) 2013
7. Fiber Energy Products 1/2 Ton
8. Natures Heat (Pennington)? NEVER AGAIN Returned 2 tons.
Can’t find my regulars this year so testing Greenway, Clean Energy, AWF and Therma Glo for this years bulk buy.
I have an Englander Stove that I purchased and installed about 5 months ago. I have purchased pellets from Walmart (Pennington) which were good, Home Depot (not good)Tractor Supply (uneven quality because of multiple suppliers) and Somerset Pellets this week from Tractor Supply which are, the hottest heating pellets. Night time temperatures have been well below zero (minus 13% at my accurate outdoor thermometer several nights this week). I have purchased them by the bag as I use my Subaru Outback to transport them.
i expressed my satisfaction with the Somerset brand to Tractor Supply urging them to try to request Somerset over the other brands. I recommend Somerset as an excellent product at a low range price.
