Summary
August 2019 – Amaizing new plant up the road.
Tony who is the “maine” man up at the brand new Wood & Sons pellet mill in Stanford ME, called me up and invited me up to take a tour of this brand new state of the art mill. I’m super impressed with the first few weeks of pellets. They are burning super hot and almost no ash. Look out VT wood pellets! Once Tony get’s these dialed in they will be hitting the market and you will need to keep your eyes out for these 100% Eastern White Pine softwood pellets for sure.

Very happy
8 years of heating with pellets. 4 brands of softwood pellets used over that time.
Have gone through 3000lbs of Wood&Sons pellets first time this season.
Heat output is comparable with all others.
Ash is about 30% less. No slag at all.
No issues of any kind using in Quadra Fire insert.
Have had 4 bags with defective heat seal open about 2” out of 65 bags but almost no pellet loss.
Will use only these pellets if quality continues.
Thanks for a great product

Mixed results
Glad to see good use for the “World’s biggest weed.” Pellets burn well and are much less expensive than Doug fir pellets I have used before. Downsides: Fines, a pretty significant amount. Have to clean the chamber pretty regularly. Resin, has gummed up the hopper a bit. Causes “cratering”, pellets cling to the sides of the hopper, and as the auger turns it can run out of fuel well before the hopper is empty.

Wood & Son Pellets Hot & Clean
I bought two ton tentatively as I heard there had been problems with the bags as some have noted below. My dealer told me the problems had been straightened out, and indeed, in two tons, not one broken bag. These are the cleanest pellets I have burned and their stable mate in my house are Okanagans and Le Crete. Wood and Son is comprable in heat, burns cleaner. One slight problem. When the hopper gets down to about an hour left it does not adequately feed the auger. I load it up before bed, before I got work and problem eliminated. Truly a super clean pellet. I’ll be purchasing more next year. .

Best Pellets Around
Best bang for your buck. $5.99/Bag here in Maine. 8,700 BTU/Lbs. Little to no Ash. I’ve burned Fireside Ultra, Energex, La Cretes, TSC branded pellets. None of them compare. La Cretes were close, but they produced a lot more Ash compared to Wood and Sons.

Junk Junk Junk
Shittiest pellets ever. damp smelly and have to burn at top setting to keep any heat. I’ve heated solely with pellets since 2013, and have used la crete’s for last few years love them burn at mid level clean stove once a week not much ash these pellets Wood’s are the totally worst i’ve tried Ill pay mpore to get heat but heat means efficiency less pellets burned and burn clean. Woods leaves a hard carbon build up in bottom of burn pot needed a needle scaler to break it up, and this after I bought 10 bags to try. Pellets are only heat source so not going to use them totally un imperessed. I burned wood before pellets so I understand drafts and air feed think they grind up building waste from building tear downs, only in Sanford

Very impressed with these pellets. Hot with very little ash. Better price than my go to pellets(Vermont’s)

A little disappointing
Bought a half ton, most of the bags were open in the same spot, the upper right corner. Some of the bags were wet causing the pellets to disintegrate and clump. Brought them back to the seller, replaced them, but they opened a new ton, and the new ton had the unsealed bags as well. Just like one of the reviews below, the pellets are small and seem to break easily. They produce good heat, hope they can make a couple improvements because the price is awesome. I usually burn Vermont Pellets, and like them a lot, but are sometimes hard to find.

Did not live up to expectations
Bought 4tons after reading good reviews for the limited run they had. Figured I would give a new company a try. Seeing now how everyone is having the same problem as me I will not buy again. There is a lot of saw dust and the pellets feel sticky. I can fill my hopper up and half way through the night the stove will shut down. Whenever I go to add more amd open the top I see that there is over half a hopper left and they’re just stuck there and won’t slide down. Good heat but terrible everything else. Will not buy again.
