Necessity being the mother of invention, I decided to invent myself a job eariler this week. I cranked up t’internet and went looking for alternative pellet suppliers. Who knows, I told myself, it’s a year since you went looking, maybe someone else is out there and doing a good deal now.
It didn’t take me long to find Puffin Pellets, an independent company in Aberdeenshire. I’ve had quotes from them in the past but they were never sufficiently cheaper than my usual supplier to warrant the risk inherent in making a change. This time, however, was a different story.
I now have in front of me full quotes from Puffin, and from my usual supplier of Balcas Brites. And let me tell you … it looks like I stand to save £35 ($54) per tonne with Puffin. That could easily be £175 ($272) over the course of the season.
The only slight drawback is that they come in 20kg bags rather than the 10kg bags I’m used to. But for that saving, I’m happy with the extra weight. I probably need the exercise anyway. All I need to do now is get a load in and review them. I still have about 300kg in store so it’ll probably be a month yet, but, hey, I’m excited (yes, I know, I’m excited about wood pellets … I never said I was the life and soul of the party though did I).
