La Crete Wood Pellets

100% Softwood – Super Premium Fuel

La Crete Wood Pellets are made from pure softwood sawdust (primarily spruce) with no additives, no bark, and compressed to deliver high heat and ultra-low ash. They’re manufactured by La Crete Sawmills in British Columbia using clean, dry wood fibre sourced in their own lumber operations.

Typical specs: Heating value around 8,800 BTUs per pound, ash content near 0.3%, moisture content about 4%. These high-performance pellets come in 40-lb bags or mini-bulk units and are geared toward pellet-stove owners seeking top-tier softwood performance.

Availability: These pellets are most commonly found through specialty dealers and delivery in the Northeastern U.S., and in Canada. Because they’re premium softwood grade, stock may be limited and distribution more selective—so check local availability, bag date and storage condition before buying large quantities.

Status note: The brand remains listed and considered a premium choice within the softwood category. However, some recent user feedback points to batch variation which suggests verifying the bag date and testing your stove early in the season is wise.

Bottom line: If your stove is optimized for softwood fuel and you’re looking for one of the cleaner, hotter options available, La Crete Wood Pellets are a standout. Just ensure you’re sourcing fresh stock and confirm your local dealer’s supply.

      1. So much dust

        (1)

This had been my go to pellet for the last 4 heating seasons. This year the quality has fallen way off. Every bag I open is full of dust. As I pour the pellets into my bucket there is a cloud of sawdust. The pellets themselves are no longer a consistent size. There are so many tiny little pieces of pellet in each bag that could only be measured in millimeters if you were to bother. Along with the tiny pieces there are a few pellets that are inches long. These have blocked my feed tube or gotten stuck and turned off my stove. My stove needs to be serviced now as the auger isn’t working, maybe coincidence. The stove itself has needed to be cleaned far more often this year. It has to be because in each bucket of pellets is so much more dust than in years previous. When they burn it is still a nice consistent flame, but I am not getting the burn time per fill that I had in years past. I have a metric ton still in the garage that I have to burn, but will be looking for a different pellet to finish off the year.

      2. La Crete wood pellets produce a lazy flame within 8-12 hrs of start up. They leave a lot of clunkers and dirty the pot quickly. Burned two tons in an Astoria Bay this winter, more work than enjoyment. I will not got back, quality has decreased after burning La Crete prior years.

      3. Got 10 bags noticed this year they junk up my burn pot after 23 hours or so and get a lazy flame. Good heat but dirty. I use Olympus Doug fir. Soon as I switch hot small flame , not gunk in pot . Sabrina Piazzetta less than one year old with oak. Short pipe run. Wouldn’t recommend. Also they are granules not like the bigger normal size pellets. I think that makes them gunk up faster.

      4. I’d say the quality has gone down. The bag still isn’t great. It leaves dust all over the house. We have a top feed stove and today I turned it off at 10am to clean it. Once cooled & cleaned I turned it back on. After 1.5hrs the house wasn’t warming up so I turned it up to level 2. By 3pm my flame is lazy and I should be turning it off again. We used Pinnacle (blue bag) pellets following the LaCrete fire and they actually are low ash, burn hot and we can go 36hrs without a lazy flame! The LaCrete pellets are crumb-med sized. I’d include a photo for prom but it won’t let me

      5. Inconsistent is the best adjective for these. In 2014, they were great–burned hot and did not foul the burner– Could run all week without cleaning. My wife loved how they smelled. In 2015, the same brand would junk up the burner so I had to clean it out every 3 days. I use a EcoHeat Solutions EcoBoiler for central heat.
