The worst pellets I have ever used. I burn on average 4-5 ton a year and have burned pellets for my primary heat for over 20 years. I purchased 5 ton this year from Tractor Supply. They switched vendors to Natures Fuel this year. Half way through the first ton my auger stopped working on the stove. I cleaned out the hopper and found a 2.5 inch thrush washer a .25 inch thick stuck in the top of my auger. When I removed the motor the gears were broke. I contacted TS and they forwarded our complaint to Natures Fuel who replied back with
Tractor Supply has asked me to respond to your e-mail regarding a washer causing damage to your motor. We are very sorry to hear about your problem.
I have verified the following with our Plant Manager–
1) Clearly this is a very large washer – 2 1/2 inches in diameter with a 1 inch diameter hole, 1/4 inch thick in total.
2) Metal of this size would obviously be unable to pass through a 1/4 inch pellet die hole intact.
3) Our entire production system from start to finish is completely closed loop, utilizing sealed pneumatic tubes to convey the pellets.
4) We do not have any washers of this size anywhere in the Plant.
5) We again checked our parts manuals for all equipment used after the pellet mills. No washers anywhere close to this size are used in the equipment hence none could have fallen off.
6) Finally our entire line has multiple magnets to remove any metal and there is a rotating magnet directly above the aspirator which does final de-dusting prior to dropping the pellets into the scale and then directly into the auto sealed bag.
7) The entire production line and Plant is constructed to insure no such foreign objects can contaminate the finished product.
Therefore, it would be impossible for this washer to come from our bag.
Sincerely, Ken Simard
I take this as implying that I dropped the washer into my own stove. Or that it came from my stove which the only thing in my hopper is sheet metal and a switch.
The pellets are very small pieces and a lot of powder. Burn very dirty lots of ash. I have to vacuum my stove daily where with most others it was weekly. Many bags with moisture in them. I will never buy this brand of pellets again or from Tractor Supply.
We have a Glow Boy pellet stove. This is the second ton of Nature’s fuel wood pellets that we have bought. This second ton is absolutely awful! Here I am, again taking out the pellets out of the hopper because the sawdust is clogging up the auger. There is so much sawdust in each of the bags! We should not have to keep doing this every 2 or 3 bags. Our pellet stove holds 2 bags of pellets too, so you can see that this makes so much work. Yes we do clean the stove as we should, but in the 15 years that we’ve been burning pellets, this is the first product that has clogged up the auger so that it just won’t turn and release the pellets as it should.
Don’t bother with these pellets!
I am very pleased with these pellets,The best I’ve ever burned.I worry that my local Home depot will not always have them in stock as they always seem to keep changing brands (Junk ones). Mike in Maine
We have a Harman Advance. We bought 6 bags of Nature’s Fuel at the local HD. We found these to be about halfway between the North American (won’t touch again) and the Blazers (preferred), so we returned a few days later and bought a ton. It’s been a week, and the stove won’t keep the house as warm as it has been. We also have to turn the stove off and clean it about once per day to remove the crust of blackened, unburned pellets that are blocking the pellets coming out of the auger.
Follow up review; after burning nearly half a ton I am less impressed with them. They are very soft and way to much dust and fines in the bags. They have also created a sticky build up in my hopper that caused the pellets to bridge and not feed. .
They do burn hot and with little ash but so do others without the mess. Not a repeat for me unless there is nothing else, which was the case a few weeks ago.

First time using these pellets, bought them from Home Depot. The picture of the pellets on the bag shows the pellets are “dark” but they were very light coming out of the bag. The pellets were broken down quite a lot; not because of the handling of the bags but because I believe the process and resins that keep the pellets’ shape wasn’t done correctly. The pellets sound and feels like you’re pouring sawdust into the bin to the pellet stove. I’m actually scared to use these bags as the “sawdust” consistency might jam my augur. I’m quite dissappointed.
I grabbed 6 bags of these at local HD and after burning the first bag I knew I couldn’t go wrong with the ton. You can really smell the pine. They have very low ash, great heat and doesn’t cloud the glass. I agree with another posting here, don’t handle these too much, they are soft. I’ve burned some great stuff and some lousy stuff, these are one of the good ones. I have a Harmon P35i and it pretty much will burn anything but I prefer stuff that does leave a mess to clean up.
Bought a few bags from the local HD. Surprised as to the heat, low ash and no clinkers their pellets have. Was concerned about the use of white pine as a fuel source not producing the BTU’s needed. Pleasantly surprised. If I had to offer a negative, pellets are soft. Some shake in the bottom of the bag. Would recommend handling as little as possible. Went back to HD and bought 2 tons. Ready for the winter. We have a Lenox Winslow free standing pellet stove
I installed a Thielen Parlor 3000 in 2010. I used Bear Valley Pellets the first year. I am now using Nature’s Fuel that I purchased during a feed store sale for easy delivery. I don’t like them near as much. They have more sawdust content and are softer than the Bear Valley pellets. I clean my stove every 2 to 3 days. The glass tends to get blacked more quickly than with the other pellets. These do burn hot, but I am thinking that I am using more of them. Just my 2 cents…. Thanks!
