Rocky Mountain Wood Pellets
100% Softwood (Lodge-Pole Pine) – Super Premium Fuel
Rocky Mountain Wood Pellets are manufactured using only lodge-pole pine sawdust from mountain forests, compressed to deliver high heat and minimal ash. The pellet-maker emphasizes “super premium” standards: low moisture, low fines and dense burn material designed for efficient home heating.
Typical specs: Recent production batches claim ash under ~0.50 %, BTUs around 8,400-8,700 per pound, and moisture content well below 6%. Because the feedstock is a single softwood species, many users report clean glass and solid burn quality when fresh.
Availability: Although originally produced in Colorado, these pellets are sold across the U.S. via pellet dealers and online bulk shipments. If you’re sourcing them locally, check bag date, storage condition and ensure the run is current for best performance.
Status note: While the brand is still listed and was once well-rated, recent user feedback has called out batch variation, with reports of increased ash or fines in some runs—so testing a few bags early in the season is recommended.
Bottom line: If your pellet stove burns softwood very well and you want a premium softwood pellet with top-tier specs and clean performance, Rocky Mountain Wood Pellets are a standout option—just verify freshness and batch quality before buying by the ton.

Summary
Rocky Mountain Wood Pellets are premium softwood heating pellets manufactured using 100% lodge-pole pine sawdust, compressed to produce a clean, high-energy burn without chemical binders. Designed for residential pellet stoves and boilers, these pellets feature low moisture content and low fines for efficient combustion and meet or exceed Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) premium grade standards. Retail listings describe them as an eco-friendly, natural heating fuel that offers strong heat output and cleaner burns compared with lesser quality pellets — though performance can vary by batch and storage conditions.

Problematic
These pellets are very problematic. There is enough sawdust in every bag that fills up your feed tube and your stove shuts down. I will not be buying anymore of these. I’m tired of waking up to a cold house.

Bad year for this brand of pellets
Really poor and inconsistent quality this year, 2023-2024, from one bag to another. I even replaced the old exhaust vent blower fan hoping that would help and it’s still been bad. Constantly having to clean my stove and having to burn creosote off! Very annoying and terrible heat production when this brand has been fantastic previous years. Definitely won’t buy two pallets of this brand next year after the frustration I’ve had with them this year
