Blackstone Wood Pellets

Blackstone Wood Pellets

100% Hardwood – Premium Pellet Fuel

Blackstone Wood Pellets are manufactured in Connecticut from clean hardwood sawdust and engineered for high performance. These pellets deliver strong heat output while keeping ash levels low, making them suited for homeowners who want dependable, hardwood-only fuel.

Typical specs: Ash content of approximately 0.46% and a BTU output around 8,165 BTUs per pound in recent production runs. Designed for residential pellet stoves with a focus on hardwood performance.

Availability: Sold directly or through specific regional dealers in the Northeastern U.S., these pellets are often supplied by the manufacturing facility in the Blackstone River Valley. Because supply is regional and hardwood-only runs tend to be limited, check bag date, batch number and storage condition before buying large quantities.

Status note: The Blackstone brand remains listed among pellet fuels, though user reviews note some variation in batch quality—issues like higher fines or inconsistent pellet size have been reported. Testing a few bags early in the season is advisable.

Bottom line: If your pellet stove is optimized for hardwood fuel and you’re seeking a premium product made from 100% hardwood with strong heat and minimal ash, Blackstone Wood Pellets are a strong option—just verify you’re getting fresh stock from a recent run.

Good pellets and worth the price but…..

        Pros

        • good heat

        Cons

        • average ash and burns dark, glass gets dirty pretty fast, some pellets are double the normal length, quality control should be better regarding that

Bags not properly sealed. Water made its was into several bags in the 3 tons that I purchased this season. This has not ever happened before. The water froze causing me to discard 5 full bags of pellets & discarding portions of several other bags.

        Pros

        • Great product for the price.

      3. Terrible quality

I really wanted to like these pellets because they are made local to where I live. They’re also reasonably priced. But, they were horrible. I bought 10 bags to trial run these before buying my annual supply and I was terribly disappointed. Firstly, they easily had 3-4 times the fines of other brands I run. That is not an exaggeration. I was seeing black pellets that I suspected could be plastic, but I did find bits of mangled plastic that removed all doubt that plastic had been mixed in with the wood. Also found in the bags were little balls of oil and saw dust. Smelled like CLP oil.

Either the plastic or wads of oil ended up leaving burned specs on the glass of my stive. Similar to what you might see with oil glazing to a hot pan. Also to note, ash builds up as pucks in the fire pot, but needs to be broken/scraped out. Other brands I run are less dense and require less scraping after burning.

Strong pine smell from these pellets. I suspect these pellets are made from pallets based on the coloration found in in the pellets (thinking painted pallets), but also the fact that when I drive by where they’re manufactured, there are always 20 or so trailers packed to the brim with stacks of empty pallets.

        Pros

        • - They burn.

        Cons

        • - bits of plastic in the pellets.
        • - excessive amount of fines.
        • - wads of oil and fine saw dust.
        • - leaves burned oil marks on glass.

      4. Not worth it - you get what you pay for.

I paid $320 for these pellets thinking that I would get a better product that the no-name Tractor Supply pellets. I was wrong. These pellets burn very dirty and not hot. I have to vacuum out every 2 days and have flameouts every 2-3 days. High creosote and tons of sawdust! The pellet length is sometimes too long and jams up the auger. If you need affordable but decent pellets, the TSC hardwood are better, and if you can find them, Virginia Golden software are very good for the price and burn much hotter & cleaner.

        Pros

        • They will burn, just not that well. If you need pellet fuel, it will get the job done.

        Cons

        • Very dirty burning, high creosote, high ash, lots of sawdust. Trash pellets.
