Matra Softwood Pellets
100% Eastern White Pine – Super Premium Softwood Fuel
These Matra Softwood Pellets are made from nothing but kiln-dried Eastern White Pine, with no bark, no additives and strict sourcing from a specialty mill. The result is a pellet that burns hot, clean and with minimal ash.
Typical specs: around 8,900 BTUs per pound and ash content around 0.26% or lower — classed as “super premium.” Available via distributors in the Northeastern U.S. (including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island) and by pallet or bag delivery depending on region.
Note on availability: Production is limited because the pellet mill uses sawdust from their primary door/window manufacturing operations — so stock can be tight. If you’re considering them, early ordering is wise.
Bottom line: If your pellet stove handles softwood really well and you’re looking for a low-ash, high-BTU pellet, Matra is an excellent contender — just verify current season stock and bag date before buying.

Awesome Pellets very low ash
I’ve been burning Matra for a few years now , last year was different. I will explain , in the past, the pellets were great last year there was a issue at the matra plant because out of 1 ton of pellets, I had several bags with lots of so dust which was clogging my auger in my Harmon P43 I returned the remaining what I had of the ton and switched to Hamers Hot Ones which were great, I spoke to my pellet stove, dealer, and Matra fix the issue, this year I continue to burn 2 tons of Hamers , but I decided to try the Matra again I bought a few bags to try it out and they were excellent very low ass no sawdust whatsoever in the bags, normally, I would clean my pellet stove every week with the Hamers , now back to burning Matra and the pellet hands-down is extremely excellent with very high heat output, burns very clean hardly any ash in my stove so now burning these pellets I can go 2 1/2 weeks without emptying and cleaning my stove , I do scrape the burn pot twice a day once in the morning and once at night before I go to bed just because I’m used to it, but like I said, hardly any ash , Matra this year are burning like Northern Warmth supreme, Douglas fir , . The northern warmth supreme are very expensive by me. At $12- a bag or $595- a ton , which I will not pay, getting back to Matra
My glass stays clean for those 2 1/2 weeks that my stove is burning Matra . Matra should come out with a smaller bag for people that have problems lifting the 40 pound bag. Besides that the pellet is excellent.

This is our 1st year burning Matras. Previous 10 -12 yrs we’ve burned La Cretes exclusively in our M55CI Enviro stove. To date I’ve burned a ton+ and found the heat output to be similar to LaCrete and they seem to burn cleaner. ie the ash build up on the glass is easier to remove as is the coking on the burn pot. However I find the amount of ash in the ash pan to be much greater and a finer consistancy then years past. With the stove running at setting 1 (lowest) or setting 2 I need to dump the ash pan every 3 to 4 days. Burning LaCrete at #1 I could go 2 weeks and about 1 week on setting 2. The ash produced is very fine and powdery. Like talcum powder. Like others have found the pellets need to be pushed down into the lower the upper hopper or the stove will shut down long before the hopper is empty.
