Vermont Wood Pellets
100% Softwood – Super Premium Fuel
Vermont Wood Pellets are manufactured in Vermont using only softwood sawdust from sustainably managed forests, compressed through a proprietary process to deliver high heat output and exceptionally low ash. These pellets are engineered for homeowners who want top-tier fuel performance.
Typical specs: Heat values of about 8,500 BTUs per pound and ash content significantly under 0.5% in many batches; bagged in 40-lb units with pallet options for bulk. Their manufacturing process emphasizes clean material, minimal bark, low moisture and screened pellets for consistency.
Availability: These pellets are distributed throughout New England and beyond via select dealers and fuel suppliers. Because of their premium grade and regional manufacturing, availability may be more limited compared with mainstream bag fuels—check bag date, storage condition and local dealer stock.
Status note: Vermont Wood Pellets continues to be listed as an active brand and recognized for high-quality fuel. As with all pellet fuels, batch variation and storage matter—so verifying fresh season stock remains important.
Bottom line: If your pellet stove is tuned for softwood fuel and you’re seeking a cleaner-burning, high-heat option from a regional manufacturer, Vermont Wood Pellets are a strong choice—just confirm you’re getting a current run and good local availability.

Summary
2018–So what is up with the confetti I see in the bag this year? There is a distinct 2 tone color going on here but that is not an issue. The pellets burned awesome and super low ash as usual!
2017–Consistency is key when in today’s market dropping $1000 to heat your house is not unheard of. I’m not sure how they do it but year after year these pellets burn super hot and low ash. We are talking West Coast Doug Fir quality milled right here on the East Coast in beautiful VT. In Fact, they are right down the road form the summer camp I grew up at called Camp Sangamon where we would go to swim in the gorge around the corner from their mill.
Vermont Wood Pellets are super-premium softwood wood pellet fuel made from locally harvested, sustainably managed softwoods that are processed using the company’s HeatRight™ technology. This proprietary production method creates hyper-compressed pellets that burn hotter, longer, and cleaner than many traditional pellets by minimizing moisture and ash, resulting in high heat output, very low ash, and reduced stove maintenance — ideal for residential pellet stoves and boilers.
Pros
- consistent
- hot, hot, hot and did I say hot!
- nice bags
- awesome pine pitch smell
Cons
- tough to find sometime
- smaller runs = limited qty some years

Major difference in quality between 2018 / 2019
Bought VWP for the 2018 heating season and loved them, clean + low ash, bought ten bags in 2019 and it’s the complete reverse, they have a very noticeable unpleasant smell and thick black creosote. In 2018 I’d clean the glass every third day and the stove once a week, in 2019 the glass is black within half a day and the stove needs daily cleaning.
I won’t use VWP again until I hear of better reviews.

Dirty stove
I purchased 3 tons of Vermont pellets in June 2017 and burned them 2 winters in a Harman XXV.. Similar to other reviewers, I had the same problem with black creosote buildup inside my burn chamber and on the glass. This made cleaning the stove a long process and a messy job. I have burned several cheaper pellets and never experienced this much black soot. When scraping the stove each morning, the soot also created dust in my house and my children’s socks turned black on the soles. The ash content is low and good heat output. Due to the black soot, I will not buy Vermont Wood pellets again.

Vermont Wood Pellet Company
They produce good heat and they have a nice, spruce type smell to them, but as said before there is a lot of fines and dust and they seem to stick to the sides of the pellet bin and cause feeding problems. This can be very annoying when you have to move the pellets by hand several times to get them to feed down to the auger. Not too much ash, but there does seem to be excessive black soot compared to other pellets. For the high price of the Vermont pellets I expected much better.

these are absolutely the worst pellets i have ever burned. bought a half ton because my usual pellets (northern warmth purely pine) are no where to be found. not only were they short and crumbly right out of the bag, there were alot and i mean ALOT of fine dust in the bags i had to sift my remaining bags due to my auger getting jammed by fines and the small pieces. Even after doing that, i still had issues with seems to be pitch building up around the auger feed and the smalls sticking to the sides. When they did burn, the black soot almost immediately covered the glass and the entire inside of the firebox. i adjusted combustion air with no success. these BY FAR are the dirtiest pellets i have ever burned. i don’t know what is going on up there in the plant but, keep making these and you won’t be in business long. the only plus i have for these is heat. when they did burn , they produced a lot of heat.

I have a quadrafire Mt Vernon AE, I have used Vermont Wood Pellets since 2013. I was extermly happy with the product until this season 2017/2018. Pellets don’t feed as well, less heat and a lot more ash. I have never had HEAVY black ash build upon the glass until this year
