Have a Harman PF100 furnace here in NH. Tried Genava this year with 10 tons delivered prior to winter. I’ve tried many different pellet brands. Geneva are better than most…fines, heat output, ash and burn pot clinkers are all fine. I would recomend to others. Plan to purchase them for next year for sure.
I have been burning pellets for many years and have tried different brands. I decided to try Geneva because they were highly recommended by the store. They are by far the worst pellets on the market. Do not use these. With other pellets I have used I would have to clean my stove once a week.. I have to clean my stove daily because of the huge amount of ash left behind and the build up of soot. I wish I had done my homework before I purchased these. I will NEVER use these again. They don’t give out much heat and a lot of the pellets don’t even burn. What a waste of money and now the extra time having to clean the stove daily.
had to clean the ash pan way to often I’m not happy with this brand of pellets.they been trouble from the first bag.they don’t burn completely, massive clumps in the burn pot and don’t burn then the clumps fall over into the ash bin.nor do they heat all that good,I’m really un happy with them in every way.I’ve have my stove for 5 years and it’s the first time I’ve been so un happy with the pellets.
I have a St Croix Pepin stove (10th year). Decided to try the Geneva hardwood pellets. They have been nothing but trouble since the first bag. I had my stove professionally cleaned twice last year and once this year (before the heating season), so I know it is NOT the stove. These pellets take awhile to ignite and do not burn completely if at all! Too many pellets end up in the ash bin completely intact with little evidence of burning. Also, they gather in massive clumps in the burn pot and just won’t burn! Then they fall over into the ash bin. What a nightmare!! Needless to say, I TOTALLY know why she is called “Cinderella!” Additionally, they never generated any great levels of heat. Out of frustration, I bought two bags of Pennington Nature’s Heat pellets from Walmart. They burned like a dream and put out a very toasty warmth (especially on single-digit days/nights this week). Really didn’t want to believe it was the pellets (I had ordered two pallets), so I tried the Geneva again with the same dismal results. I bought two bags of Inferno pellets from Big Y (grocery store) this morning (Walmart’s supply is out), and they seem to be burning just fine. Thanks to Scott of Connecticut Pellet in Torrington for his understanding and exchanging of the pellets.
I “Short Clean” my stove at least once a week, meaning I dump the burn pot ash and clean the sides of all Ash build up, I scrape once in the morning before work and once at night before bed.
I do a longer clean once every two weeks (or so based on my schedule) cleaning Ash bucket, Hopper, fans, anything I can reach with a Shop Vac.
I had been burning the NEWP Blended Pellets (~2 tons last season) rushed out and bought a ton of them this season as soon as the new shipment hit my local Agway. I apologized to anyone I had recommended these pellets to almost as quickly. My Ash bucket was full in literally 2 weeks, glass was filthy after 2 bags, I see many pellets in each bag that when I pull out and measure are 1.75 to 2 inches in length, they are extremely noisy!
Locally almost all dealers switched to the NEWP Hardwood pellets, and almost instantly sold out, I was unable to get any. Not wanting to get the Blended mess again, I went out searching. Couldn’t find pellets near me that I was excited about so bought another 10 blended bags. Went to get my 2 year old some milk, the local market had the Geneva by the bag. Grabbed 2 bags to try. Then ordered my first ton of them the next day. The Market takes orders and does not leave any pallets lying around, if you want a ton, order it and you get it fresh about 3 days later.
IMO (2nd year with a Pellet stove so take that for what it is worth), these Pellets are far more “Premium” than the NEWP. I burn with Feeder on about 2, Combustion about 4.5 – 6, the room fan depends on how cold my upstairs is or isn’t.
I love these Pellets, they even cleaned some of the black off of the glass left over from my last NEWP bags.
I have 4 NEWP bags in my basement, I want to burn them as much as I want to jump into Lake Winnipesaukee in February!
The Geneva are burning with a far more evenly distributed heat than the NEWP. Both Brands I burn at about 18-20 hours per bag, the heat just seems to spread better with the Geneva.
I really thought last years NEWP were great pellets, burned clean and hot, a little Ashy but assumed it was me. This year I had a bad experience with them. To each their own though.
I personally will probably stay with Hardwood going forward, friends that burn softwood have really dirty stoves and they clean as often if not more than I do.
My stove is in my family room, so a nasty window does not make the Wife a happy camper!
My Harman P38 seems to work real well with Hardwood, I like the smell, the flame, the heat, and the fact I get them ordered, I do not pick some up that have been sitting outside for who knows how long.
The only thing I would recommend to you is take every review with a grain of salt and always test burn in batches of 5-10.
