Green Supreme Wood Pellets

Hardwood / Softwood Blend – Home Depot’s Most Common Pellet Fuel

Green Supreme Wood Pellets are manufactured by Lignetics Group and sold nationwide through The Home Depot and regional distributors. They’re made from a blend of hardwood and softwood sawdust sourced from sawmills throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Each bag is P.F.I. Certified for premium grade fuel and contains no additives or binders — just pure, compressed wood fiber.

Typical specs: 8,200 – 8,500 BTUs per pound and ash content around 0.4 – 0.7 %. The pellets are screened for low dust and packaged in durable 40-lb bags. They burn hot and steady, making them a popular “go-to” option for many Home Depot customers each heating season.

Availability: Green Supreme is distributed nationwide through Home Depot locations in states like Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Regional plants under the Lignetics umbrella produce different formulations to match local wood species, so BTU and ash numbers may vary slightly by region.

Status note: As of 2025, Green Supreme remains one of the most widely available retail pellet brands in the U.S. via big-box stores and local dealers — but bag date and mill origin still matter for performance, so always check before you buy.

Bottom line: Green Supreme is a dependable, widely available pellet that delivers solid heat and reasonable ash for its price point — a reliable everyday fuel for most pellet stoves sold at Home Depot and beyond.

  1. Hate to be contrary but I LOVE these pellets. I suspect that at least some of the conflicting reviews result from there being 2 manufacturing plants and obviously multiple lots from each. BUT . . . I burned two tons last year (at @209/ton @ HD) and loved them. For the price, the combination of clean burn, low ash and higher heat than other big box brands sold me on them. I bought 3 tons for this season and loved them just as much.

I ended up burning all 3 tons plus all my assorted leftovers for a total of a little over 4 tons this year and will buy Green Supremes again. I should note that I just picked up 6 bags of Okanagan Black Hills just in case the nights stay cold and they are great . . . but $7 a bag at our local dealer.

  2. Definitely noticed a change in these pellets from fall to now. Bought two tons in the fall and they burned great, no issues. Went to Lowes a month ago and they just had a new shipment come in. Picked up another ton and found them to be poorer quality for sure. Noticed an immediate different smell to the pellet, less heat, and a lot more ash.
Hopefully just got a bad batch, but afraid to try them again in my Harman XXV.

  3. I have a lopi leyden stove. These pellets had above average ash, and way below average heat. I believe a hair dryer would give off more heat. I am avoiding these pellets.

  4. A friend recommended Green Supreme pellets so I came here to read the reviews and am amazed at how the reviews conflict so dramatically. So I bought 20 bags at Lowes in Connecticut anyway, and here’s what I found:

    (I have a Breckwell Big E and a Napoleon NPS40.)

HEAT: In my stoves, the Green Supremes give off okay heat. Not nearly as good as premium pellets such as Logik-E or CleanFire Pacific which I had been burning recently, but probably a little better than typical big box store pellets. Still, I doubt the BTU ratings on the bag.

AUGER: I have found NO problems with debris in the bag or jamming augers. Very few long pellets.

ASH: Ash is definitely higher than most of the brands I have burned. Not ridiculous, but more than average.

CLINKERS: None. I have had no clinkers at the settings I’m using (moderate feed rate and air) Even the super premium pellets give me clinkers sometimes.

    FINES: Normal amounts.

GLASS: These are less dirty on my glass than I am accustomed to with other pellets, on both stoves.

Overall, not bad for the price, especially if you just need to get through a few weeks in the spring. I do not understand some of the incredibly negative comments about these pellets.

  5. 6th year with my Kozi 100. These pellets burn fairly hot and low ash, are the 4th brand i’ve tried, however these fill up my burn pot every day. All the other brands the ash would end up in the pan not in the burn pot. Used to clean my stove every 3 days, with the green supreme every day because of the burn pot filling up with a very heavy ash. Probably will not buy again.
