Packsaddle Wood Pellets
100% Softwood (Douglas Fir) – Super Premium Fuel
Packsaddle Wood Pellets are made exclusively from Douglas Fir sawdust, without chemical additives or recycled materials. Each 40-lb bag is designed for homeowners who want a high-heat, low-maintenance fuel choice for their pellet stove.
Performance highlights: Heating value around 8,353 BTUs per pound, ash content less than ~0.25%, fines under ~0.05%, and moisture under ~6%. These specs place it at the premium end of the market and many users report excellent burn time and minimal cleanup.
Availability: Packsaddle pellets are produced by Frank Pellets LLC in the Pacific Northwest and distributed through select feed & farm supply dealers and specialty heating-fuel suppliers. Because of the premium softwood nature, regional availability may vary, so it’s wise to check stock, bag date and storage conditions before buying by the ton.
Status note: The brand remains active and well-reviewed by many long-term pellet stove users. That said, occasional feedback on recent batches reports greater ash/maintenance versus older runs, so testing a bag early in the season is recommended.
Bottom line: If your stove is tuned for softwood fuel and you’re after best-in-class performance (high BTU, ultra-low ash) then Packsaddle Wood Pellets are a top choice—just confirm you’re sourcing a fresh production run and that local supply is strong.

Very happy with these
I live in Oregon and really like these packsaddle pellets. They seem very hot, almost no ash, firm and do not tend to absorb moister, which is important in the Northwest! I am very satisfied with their performance.
I have been using pellets since the 90’s. I wish I could find them cheaper!
They claim 100% douglas fir and they certainly look to be.

Happy with the Packsaddle
Super happy with Packsaddle pellets. We changed from a Wood stove (which had since 1983) to a pellet stove 1 year ago. I was very nervous having a pellet stove. I wanted the feel of having wood. These pellets burn last with little ash. They smell good and I am super happy I did this and got the Packsaddle pellets. I have bough others to see and this year, I am only buying Packsaddle. I drive from Tumwater WA to Portland OR for the best buy.

Packsaddle burn clean!
I burned two tons of packsaddle pellets in my boiler this winter. I ended up cleaning out less than 1/2 of a 5 gallon bucket of ash and had minimal cleaning in the burner. Totally amazing. Now i will burn nothing else.

Harman P68, runs 24×7 (minus 30 minutes cleaning once per week) in MA just east of Prov, RI.
Packsaddle pellets, although a bit pricier, are by far the cleanest and longest lasting pellets I’ve used too date. Very low ash, glass stays clean, cleanup is easy as the ash doesn’t stick. I use less to keep an entire 3-story 3900SqFt home warm than with any other pellet, so the price evens out. This year I burned some Easy Blaze (on nights above 35 degrees, and packsaddle for all the nights below that). Burned Blazer last year. Both are no comparison to Packsaddle, and I will purchase 6 tons on an early-bird special again this summer (if I can find a distributor in my area again).
