Packsaddle Wood Pellets

Packsaddle Wood Pellets

100% Softwood (Douglas Fir) – Super Premium Fuel

Packsaddle Wood Pellets are made exclusively from Douglas Fir sawdust, without chemical additives or recycled materials. Each 40-lb bag is designed for homeowners who want a high-heat, low-maintenance fuel choice for their pellet stove.

Performance highlights: Heating value around 8,353 BTUs per pound, ash content less than ~0.25%, fines under ~0.05%, and moisture under ~6%. These specs place it at the premium end of the market and many users report excellent burn time and minimal cleanup.

Availability: Packsaddle pellets are produced by Frank Pellets LLC in the Pacific Northwest and distributed through select feed & farm supply dealers and specialty heating-fuel suppliers. Because of the premium softwood nature, regional availability may vary, so it’s wise to check stock, bag date and storage conditions before buying by the ton.

Status note: The brand remains active and well-reviewed by many long-term pellet stove users. That said, occasional feedback on recent batches reports greater ash/maintenance versus older runs, so testing a bag early in the season is recommended.

Bottom line: If your stove is tuned for softwood fuel and you’re after best-in-class performance (high BTU, ultra-low ash) then Packsaddle Wood Pellets are a top choice—just confirm you’re sourcing a fresh production run and that local supply is strong.

  3. Gotten worse

I have used Packsaddle pellets for over 7 years and been very happy. However, the latest 2 tons have been very disappointing because of the large amount of ash and frequency needed for cleaning. In the past I would clean the stove once or twice per winter but now I am needing to clean every couple of weeks. Looking around for another brand.

  4. Best Pellets Ever

I just burned my first bag of the 2022 batch I bought here in Oregon. I’ve been burning other premium pellets for years, but for the first time in quite a few years, Packsaddle was available to me locally. WIthin minutes, I could smell that my stove was burning hotter, with the same settings as the prior pellets, which were also 100% Doug Fir. The pellets are evenly sized and they look and smell more like 100% Doug Fir should. Hands down, these are the best pellets I’ve ever burned. Highest BTU, lowest ash and soot, and you get a lot more heat for the money. Face it, clean burns are a HUGE plus, too. Pellet stoves are not as efficient when they get dirty. I expect to get through my 70 bags this winter and only have to do a quick peripheral cleaning once or twice….leaving the major cleaning to after the season, annually. I expect less than 1/2 the ash and soot that I normally see accumulated this year. VERY PLEASED with this top product!

    • The best ever!!!! They are grand! Have used a different brand many years until my daughter and son-in-law brought me a ton for Christmas. The glass is always clean on my stove and no debris no flaky pellets just perfect pellets the entire bag. They smell good I will never go back to the other brands
