Rocky Canyon Wood Pellets

100% Red Fir – Premium Softwood Fuel

Rocky Canyon Wood Pellets are made by a family-owned mill in Grangeville, Idaho that uses only kiln-dried red fir to produce a uniform, dense pellet with exceptional burn characteristics. Because they use pure red fir and no fillers, these pellets are built to deliver strong heat, longer burn time and fewer ash residues.

Typical specs indicate ash content under 1% and a burn time that outpaces many standard softwood pellets. Availability: Primarily in western U.S. states such as Idaho, Montana, Washington and Colorado, though pallet delivery may reach broader regions depending on retailer. The brand appears active and listed with real-world retail availability today.

Bottom line: If your stove is compatible with softwood pellets and you’re looking for a high-end fuel made from a premium species (red fir), Rocky Canyon is a solid choice—just be sure to check local stock and delivery logistics in your area.

This is our second year using Rocky Canyon wood pellets. They seem to burn with less ash than other brands I have tried and they have worked without any problem in our pellet stove.

        Pros

        • none

        Cons

        • The pellets are not the same this year. Last year I burned over 5 pallets ( 250+) bags with no problems,
        • I have 3 stove between my house and the shop, This year I have had a lot of problems with the pellets having a lot of loose saw dust forming in my augers which plug the stoves, it is like the pellets are softer and don't hold up and turn to saw dust. very disappointed, I bought 200 bags to start this season. I hope they are not all that way, I will start using the other brands. some thing is different, I have stopped recommending them as a premium pellet

      3. Used to be the best

I’ve used Rockies for years. Last year I had to travel 2 hours to get them and they cost $2 more than other brands. Usually this would be worth the time and money but the pellets were now different. They were yellowish and not the usual pinkish red color. They burned horribly with lots of soot and ash. Previously even in the coldest part of January I would rarely go through a bag a day and only need to clean the stove once a week. Last year’s pellets we’re almost two bags a day and almost daily cleaning. This year the pellets were $3 or more expensive than other brands which was too much to chance based on last year’s poor quality.

        Pros

        • No pro’s this year

        Cons

        • Extremely expensive and no benefits for the price.

      5. Great Pellets / BAD RAP

        (3)

The industries best pellet compromised by idiots spitefully damaging the bags resulting in 10% to 15% bags compromised by large unnecessary tears and bad hot seams as well as poorly wrapped pallets bundles causing the pallets to fall apart on the back of the truck and trailer.

        Pros

        • Their pellets are the industries best. I purchased 5 different pellets brands and Rocky Canyon had less than 10% the amount of ash then the competitions. Clinkers were rarely an issue when burning their pellets.

        Cons

        • I just brought home 10 tons and here's what happened. The first load completely came apart on the trailer spilling about 25 bags on the road. Second load, I barely got 2 miles down the road still in town doing 45 mph when the entire plastic rap came off and the white plastic cover almost went airborne. The whole load now needed to be leveled on the back of the truck so the load would not separate. The tenth load the entire stack started to shift and we barely made it into the driveway without dumping the load. Whoever wraps these pallet bundles places 1 - 2 wraps of thin film over the white wrap and calls it good. That's a bunch of BULL. These pallets are not even safe to carry down the highway without them coming apart. UNACCEPTABLE! My next beef is with the slobs stacking the bags. Why is it that every single pallet had at least 10 to 12 broken bags with either large rips with as many as 5 to 6 rips to 1 bag and at least 2 bags per pallet with the hot seal on the bag top not completed correctly. We ended up filling 4 x 5 gallon buckets with lost pellets. I would put my bet that someone working at Rocky Canyon has a gripe with the company and is spitefully damaging bags to ruin their good reputation. That said my next years purchase will go to Lignetics and we will see if they can do a better job with packaging.
