New 2012 is Okanagan Brand of wood pellet. Black Hills Heat is a 100% softwood pellet from the fine makers of the ever so popular and reliable Okanagan Pellets.
I tried 5 bags of Black HILLS Heat after trying 5 bags of the New England Wood Pellets. The Black Hills are decent. Again after reading the bad reviews, I was a bit nervous putting these in my stove. But after having terrible luck with the so called premium and ultra premium pellets from Cubex and Vermont, the New England’s and Black Hills were a good pellet at a more than reasonable price. Black Hills had a little more dust and fines than I would like, but more than manageable. Ash was not bad either. Heat was good and the 5 bags lasted 3 plus days on high with thermostat set at 72. I would buy these again. I have a Quadrafire CB 1200. Very clean stove.
Not a quality pellet, lots of small chips in the bag not exactly fines but these pellets break into pieces easily. They also had a strange sticky pine tar dust about them that cause them to dam in my hopper. They burn hot for sure but that doesn’t matter much if you stove stops burning over night because they’re not feeding. Maybe they’ll get the recipe right this year, but these pellets were a disappointment. I’ll stick with Platinum Oakies this year.
Have burnt 25 bags of these low fines, heavy ash and very sooty but very hot.I have been burning in a Harman invinsible and a quadra fire same result in both,Wish they were cleaner
