I have a new England stove and normally burn a high quality pine pellet. I ran out of them this winter and had to buy a ton of these indeck hardwood pellets. They are the worst ive ever seen. You have to empty the ashes every two days. Never going to buy again, and neither should you.
I burn a Thelin 3000 and these are by far the worst pellet I have ever purchased. The amount of ash they produce is incredible and i have to empty the ash every 2 days. These also burn dirty and glaze the glass in a few hours. These are readily available but i definitely will never purchase these again!
Harmon PC 45 corn / pellet stove have been using this brand for years. First as a mix with corn but now with the corn prices burning straight pellets. This year we have to keep a closer eye on the stove due to occasional back up in burn pot and glass gets black quicker. I clean my stove once to twice a month and lately have been empting ash pan once a day.
Have also just noticed a crayon smell when the blower is running and I have read this could be due to the pellets. Not sure if you change the pellets or if I got a bad batch. Will burn Penny Wise instead when I can find it otherwise based on past experience will still use Index
I have a pellpro stove, been burning penny wise pellets last 3 years, not perfect, dusty but have been able to figure out how to burn them, went to the indeck brand of pellet as as a substitute, was told they are the same, well they are not, have to increase the auger speed to get any kind of heat out of the pellet, tryed more damper, less, you got me how to burn this pellet, its the worst I used, mixing two brands together to get rid of indeck, I won’t use indeck anymore, waste of money…
We bought these at Menards in Kansas. I don’t know that we stick to a certain brand. We normally buy at Tractor Supply or a Farm store. We happened to be in town and picked up 3 bags. We had them in the garage and I noticed a smell… I asked my husband what this smell was (smelled like oil / chemical). We figured out it was the pellets. This is our first night of using the pellets in the stove and WE WILL NEVER BUY THEM AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our whole house smells funky thanks to these pellets and my pellet stove glass is BLACK. I think we will pay more attention to what we buy… and we might take 2 of the bags back. Although they were cheap… I can’t stand the smell. I have never had pellets smell like this before (!).
We have a home in Ladysmith WI. Our basement/family room is headed via a wood pellet burner. We burn Indeck and have no issues what so ever. When I need to add pellets I just grab a bag and dump it in. I have never seen more than a teaspoon of sawdust come from a bag and could burn 100 bags without needing to empty the ash bucket if I were to let it go that long. I only burn fresh pellets as our local feed store lets us prepay for X tons and lets us pick up as needed.
Bought a new Avalon Asteria. Started with Martha premium pine pellets. They are somewhat dusty and tend to build up in the auger. My auger actually stopped turning because it was plugged. I was running it on low all the time and this can add to the problem of the auger becoming plugged. I am now using Uncle Jed’s Cold Weather Remedy Premium pellets. They are much cleaner, less sawdust in each bag and they leave less ash. I am very happy with Uncle Jed’s pellets.
I have the same experiences as the comments below. Probably the worst pellet made in Wis. I have tried Lumber Jack and Marth, much better than Indeck. Uncle Jed’s is a great softwood pellet, but made somewhere else.
Everone I know that burns pellets has had a problem with Indeck. Its the only pellet I could find in Portage or Madison Wis. My guess is they dropped there price to everyone to get rid of them.
Europa stove cleaned weekly. Never buy these pellets
