Michigan Wood Fuels Wood Pellets

Michigan Wood Fuels Pellets are made in Holland, Michigan, using locally sourced hardwood sawdust and residual wood fiber. They’re designed for homeowners seeking strong heat output, minimal additives and a quality domestic product.

Typical specifications: Bagged in 40-lb units, the pellets are PFI-certified with high BTU output and low ash levels. The brand emphasizes “100% natural wood, no chemicals or additives.”

Availability: These pellets are distributed primarily in Michigan, Northern Indiana and Ohio through retail-partners like Menards and regional lumber/heat dealers. If buying outside the core region, check for local dealer stock, bag date, and production batch.

Status note: The brand remains active and listed by retailers. However, user feedback indicates some recent batches have shown variation in heat output and ash, so testing a few bags early in the season is a smart move.

Bottom line: If your pellet stove is tuned for hardwood fuel and you’re located in the Midwest region (or willing to ship in), Michigan Wood Fuels offers a strong domestic option—just verify freshness, inspect the bags and check dealer inventory before buying in bulk.

Bought 10 bags and the first thing I noticed was that they smelled like pine which is a softwood and after a week I had already burned all 10 bags so they burn fast and they clogged up the the ignition pan and I couldn’t get them to burn without scrubbing the pan with a wire brush, I will stay away from them in the future unless it is a last resort. Very dissatisfied with these pellets especially with how cold it has been this year

These are the worst pellets I've ever had over 1/4 bag of sawdust in each bag I purchase 3 ton from tractor supply in Rhode Island .not much heat, cloges, jammes the auger have to clean it every 3 days, definitely check next time before I buy again.

Puts out very little heat. Little ash but clumps of clinkers. Constantly shut it down to clean pot. Ran this stove in winter for about 10 years. Keep it clean and well cared for. Never have been so frustrated. Live on social security. No extra money to buy any different. 40 bags left. Spent lots of money on these pellets to add to my misery.

    Never again

If it's warm enough outside it is good for the patio atmosphere. As a heating supplement for the home, not going to do the job. Very high ash and very low BTU. I bought a pallet of this and am going to town to buy a pallet of a much better brand.

  5. Diane

Absolutely the worst ever!! No heat to them. Bought a whole pallet. Very disappointing!!! Junk!!

I hear entirely with a pellet stove. Michigan wood pellets are by far the best pellet fuel I have used in 20 years. The least amount of ash. I have not had any clinkers, I left the stove run for 24 hours without dumping the burn pot. When I went to dump the burn pot, it was empty, absolutely no build up.

  8. Robert Mohagen

I have burned wood pellets for years to heat our house. I purchased a pallet of Michigan pellets to give them a try. I will never buy another bag nor suggest this product to anyone. The sealed bags in the entire pallet are half rotten and moldy, the heat is about half of other pellets and the ash and soot are double. Never again

    Junk pellets

After buying 4 ton of pellets and fighting all winter with constant clinkers in the fire pot and plugging the air holes. With with countless numbers of auger jams it finally took out the gear box. Lucky I had a spare. Started screening the pellets good thing the season is just about over

    Disliked

    Junk pellets

Bought 4 ton of pellets, some bags burn ok but most of them don't. I have a St Croix afton bay the auger plugs up constantly and forms a clinker in the pot plugging the air holes. There are a lot of 2 inch pellets and fines.

  11. Leonard

Bought a pallet (ton) at a cheaper price than any other brands even though the reviews were not encouraging. I've burned several bags now and very pleased, very low ash, burns well and seems to last longer. Will definitely be buying another ton!

    Liked

    1. Burns warm, actually lowered feed rate.
    2. Low ash content
    3. No coke buildup
    4. Better price than any brand in my area

    Disliked

Bags can tear fairly easy if not careful

    Worst pellet ever

    Disliked

Horrible. Sheared our auger. We’ve never ever had an auger jam til we used these. Do not recommend

  13. James

I was worried that these pellets would not be good at all, since they come from a “box store” Tractor Supply, but I took the risk and bought a ton. So far clean burning, great output, not to messy (ash). These might be my new go to pellets. And Tractor Supply will price match if you find them cheaper elsewhere!

    Liked

    Burn, ash, heat, hardwood

    Disliked

Price not so bad but all pellets are going up in price right now because they are “cool” to heat and BBQ with. I almost wish the popularity would recede a bit.

  14. Ronald Darby

Bought a pallet of Michigan wood pellets for the winter. Excessive amount of dust to the point of clogging the pellet auger and causing the auger motor to burn out. After replacing the motor and gearbox and restarting, the auger once again clogged and stopped. Excessive amount of ash produced with each burn and had to build a screen device to separate all the dust prior to burn. Worst pellets I have purchased in 3 years with high level ash and low heat output.

High level dust to the point of clogging auger and burning out motor
    Low heat and excessive ash.

  15. Amie

Worst pellets ever!!! Tons of ash… only reason we bought these was because Tractor Supply was out of Pro Pellets. Have to clean my pellet furnace out every day or the fire box over fills. Never have this issue with pro pellets! Will never by your brand again!

  16. Ann m Dancy

Pellets are causing alot of soot this year, burning more and paying more for something that is not a superior product

  17. Scott johnson

    Terrible this year.

    Disliked

I have used these pellets for the last three years with no problems. But this year they are terrible. The pellets are a lot darker in color than before and leave a lot of ash. I am constantly having to clean my stove there is so much ash. Get rid of the bark in your pellets.
