Okanagan Wood Pellet Brands

Okanagan Wood Pellets are crafted exclusively from softwood sawdust (such as spruce or Douglas Fir) with no additives, no recycled materials and minimal bark. The product is made to deliver higher heat and lower ash than standard blends.

Typical specs: Heating value around 8,800 BTUs per pound, ash content under ~0.6%, and moisture levels as low as ~4%. These pellets are bagged in 40-lb units and often distributed via specialty dealers and retail outlets in the U.S. and Canada.

Availability: While originally manufactured in Canada, Okanagan pellets are available in the U.S. Northeast and other regions through selected dealers and some retail chains. Because they’re premium-grade softwood, stock may be more limited than mainstream blends—check bag date and batch freshness.

Status note: The brand remains listed by multiple distributors and is considered a high-end fuel choice. That said, premium softwood supplies can fluctuate, so verifying current runs and availability is wise before buying multiple tons.

Bottom line: If your pellet stove is tuned for softwood pellets and you’re willing to pay a bit more for very clean burn, higher heat and minimal ash—Okanagan Wood Pellets are a top contender. Just make sure you’re sourcing a fresh bag and store-condition is solid.

The okanagans are very dusty, unlike they were before being bought out. They’re also not as hot as they used to be. Cost $1,000 for 3 tons but the stove has to be on a higher setting to get the heat they used to so we’re going through them fsster

      2. I have had a Mt. Vernon, Quadra – Fire pellet stove for five years and as much as possible I have used Okanagan Platinum pellets. This year there has been a big difference in the ash build up. The ash can now has to be emptied every five days, compared to once every three or four weeks and the chunks of clinkers are huge. Also the glass front is built up with jet black ash in three days. My question is – is there something I’m now doing wrong?, Should the settings be changed and if so to what?, or have the pellets changed?
Thanks for your help and any suggestions.

      3. We have a vista pellet stove. We’ve tried probably about 8-10 different pellets. Hammer hot ones were the hottest but left awful clinkers that had us chipping the build up off every 2-3 days. The okanogans were the next hottest and let us clean the stove weekly, with none of the clinkers. It was hard to find them for a ehile but I’m happy to see they’re back.

      5. This product is smelly. I walk into my house and it smells like the greenwood end of a mill. I have had a pellet stove for 12 years and this is the first brand of pellets that I have ever had this issue with. Not a fan.
