Okanagan Wood Pellet fuel
Okanagan Wood Pellet Brands
Okanagan Wood Pellets are crafted exclusively from softwood sawdust (such as spruce or Douglas Fir) with no additives, no recycled materials and minimal bark. The product is made to deliver higher heat and lower ash than standard blends.
Typical specs: Heating value around 8,800 BTUs per pound, ash content under ~0.6%, and moisture levels as low as ~4%. These pellets are bagged in 40-lb units and often distributed via specialty dealers and retail outlets in the U.S. and Canada.
Availability: While originally manufactured in Canada, Okanagan pellets are available in the U.S. Northeast and other regions through selected dealers and some retail chains. Because they’re premium-grade softwood, stock may be more limited than mainstream blends—check bag date and batch freshness.
Status note: The brand remains listed by multiple distributors and is considered a high-end fuel choice. That said, premium softwood supplies can fluctuate, so verifying current runs and availability is wise before buying multiple tons.
Bottom line: If your pellet stove is tuned for softwood pellets and you’re willing to pay a bit more for very clean burn, higher heat and minimal ash—Okanagan Wood Pellets are a top contender. Just make sure you’re sourcing a fresh bag and store-condition is solid.

Clinkers
Let’s be honest… This year it’s hard to be choosy since there just isn’t as much supply. I’ve looked around for the pellets I used last year and no supplier in my area has them. I was happy just to find these, since on paper they sounded great (high burn output and low ash). However, I have to say I’m not a fan. Heat output seems OK, but the grainy black ash and buildup of clinkers leaves me feeling like these “platinum” pellets are not very high quality. I have to clean out my burn pot every-single-day. So 7-8 hours is all I can go between cleaning the pot. I could go four weeks with the pellets from last year. Talk about a difference…
