  1. Classic bay 1200 poor design

    Classic bay 1200

    Pros

    • Stove works great no complaints there.

    Cons

    • The hopper does not empty. Once you have used half of the hopper capacity You have to manually move pellets off the walls to the middle. If you don't, the auger will run out of pellets even though there is about 50% of the 80 lb of pellets still in the hopper. The hopper walls aren't steep enough to feed the auger. Not sure how a company can have something so simple designed so poorly.

Day one over heated and set our smoke alarm off at 3 in the morning. Hearth & Home Tech. in Gorst WA. came out and fixed it. It did it again that night, so they came out again. They replaced the top because the paint melted and was a mess. The controller set on low kept feeding pellets, and it overheated again the paint came off again. This time they repainted it and replaced the controller.I called them again because it shut down and wouldn’t feed any pellets they came out and said it had a dust build up in the auger wouldn’t turn so he cleaned it out and it was ok again. Since then it has quit 2 times and I had to reset it at least 4 times to get it to work. We got this stove in the end of November late, have put about 85 bags of pellets through it and they have been out here 4 times for it so far. We don’t trust it to leave it on if we are not home after 3 times with the smoke alarm for heat in the beginning. Hearth

and Home said that Quadra – Fire won’t take it back. This might end up in court.

  3. Quadra Fireplace Nightmare

    Don’t Buy

    Pros

    • Pretty. Put out excellent heat when it worked. Good sized hopper. Quiet

    Cons

    • Breaks, stops working, breaks, stops working, breaks, stops working....oh yeah....and nobody seems to be able to truly fix it. We have around $1400. in repair costs since purchasing it. It ran excellent for the 3 whole years. Had it serviced as recommended. Had it repaired 8 times. It's the prettiest thing in our living room, and it doesn't work. Beyond frustrating! I could not recommend this brand to anyone and have a good conscience. This company should be sued!

  4. Quadra Fire CB 1200 Constant issues

    Quadrafire CB 1200 pellet stove

    Pros

    • I owned a Quadrafire Santa Fe stove for 15 years, and was super happy with it. Only reason we "upgraded" was because the Santa Fe began to "nickel and dime" us on parts. We chose to "upgrade" to the CB 1200 for the extra BTUs, and larger size hopper. MISTAKE! For 5 years now I have been battling with the CB 1200. How? A combination of parts and "adjustments". Parts wise the stove goes through Ignitors and thermocouples like you or I change socks. Both part have been changed at least once a year since purchasing the stove. Now the part that really is annoying.... "ADJUSTMENTS" What I mean is the bolts/nuts type adjustments. The average is about once a month during heating season.... from pulling the ash dump/clinker breaker rod, the bolt that hold the gate to the firepot work themselves loose, along with the secondary ash gate/plate. I've replaced the bolts/nuts, tried using "jam nuts" to keep the bolts from loosening, but nothing works. I'm fed up! This stove is being replaced one way or another. Funny thing, I went into my local Quarda Fire dealer today, told them of my situation, and they guy picked of a huge stack of work orders and said.... I have over 30 work orders here for the exact same thing! Now looking at getting one of the "Outfitter" models. Do yourself a favor and just steer clear of the CB 1200! It may work great for a season or two....but it WILL drive you crazy having to adjust it every few weeks.

    Cons

    • -Lots of replacing parts
    • -Regular adjustment needed for it to run correctly
    • -DIRTY! Both inside and outside
    • -Ash bin/draw is not sized correctly for stove
    • -Lots of ash

Quadra fire is a fine brand, good stove with above average performance attitudes, but beware, if anything should happen to your stove that’s when the service stops. Our pellet stove stopped working last year and nobody has a repair person. We have two Quadra fire dealers in our area and one has no repair person and the other just started out by saying we couldn’t afford her repair person, how would she know what we can afford. So should your stove need repair just forget about it. Next time we will purchase a pellet stove that comes with customer service.
