Great stove, fans are an issue
This stove works great, and it’s efficient and reasonably quiet. We found that the fan to heat the room air is an issue. Every 2 years or so the fan started the season MUCH louder then when the previous season ended. It was pretty easy to replace, and only about $110, but this shouldn’t have been an issue. Otherwise, the stove was rock solid.

The Hastings is not only a good looking stove it’s efficient as well. We’ve had ours now for 5 seasons, going in to our 6th. It’s a replacement from our old Enviro Empress. We’ve had no real problems other then a squeaky fan. But this was easily fixed by pulling the side panels and giving it a good cleaning and a shot of lube. We live in New Hampshire and this is our main source of heating and the stove runs 24/7 (except to clean) from November to early April. We’ve had no real problems other than the squeaky fan. We normally pull the panels after every ton or so of pellets and give it a good cleaning and lube. Takes less then 2 hours. But the time it started squealing we hadn’t cleaned in almost 2 tons. So we can’t blame the stove. Anyway, there’s only four 7/16’s bolts and nuts holding the side panels on, 2 on each side. Take the time to pull them and give the stove a thorough cleaning after every ton or so. Your stove will burn better, last longer and give you more years of heat as well as enjoyment.
my stove just stoped working afer one hour of lighing it what could be wrong with it would start any more keeps flushing 2 and 3 lights flashing what could be what wrong with this stove!!!!!!!!!
Hastings St. Croix – First two years, it was a dream, performed as it should. Year three the control panel went bad and the igniter stopped working. This resulted in a $350 repair bill then another $200. Then it started with a high pitch squeal that no one can seem to fix and it was shutting off on it’s own but they assure me everything is fine, another $200. It worked for a little while this winter but now it’s turning itself off again. I can’t afford to keep throwing money at this thing. At this point it would be cheaper to buy another tank of oil and crank the heat.
This will be our 5th heating season with our Hastings stove, and depending on the pellets we can find to burn, this has been a very capable unit. I have a modest 1200 sq. ft. 2 level home on a lake in Northern WI..
Pellets seems to be the prime factor for almost every revue I’ve read on pellet heating, and this unit is no exception. My stove did have a failure with the igniting rod at the start of season 2, but once replace it was good to go.
In the Northwoods of Wisconsin, there seems to be a limited variation of pellets available to us, along with a very large price spread in brands.
After 2.5 heating seasons, the stove was struggling to keep up with a clean burn, and the blower chamber started making noise. After the season, I pulled the stove out and found that (probably to my learning curve on “good” cleaning) I found I may have not been running the stove with a hot enough fire burn, which led to a clogged blower chamber. Once cleaned and reinstalled… back on track with a great furnace.
This has been one of the best expenditures I’ve ever made.
