These are the averages for 48 weekly Goldenfire samples sent into Twin Ports Labs between July 1, 2012 and July 1 2013. The same as last year, I could send you a single test that would be amazing. However, we prefer to show our average because it is not just the good values that set us apart, it is the consistency. Please note that the Heating Value as received is even higher and the ash content even lower than last year.
Moisture Content: | 2.136% |
Ash Content: | 0.15% |
Heating Value – As Received: | 8527 Btu/lb |
Heating Value – Moisture Free: | 8713 Btu/lb |
Bear Mountain is same as our Goldenfire brand except we can mix up to 5% Western Red Cedar with the Douglas fir. We cannot detect a difference in testing other than a very slight increase in ash and an equally slight increase in heating value.
For more than 25 years Golden Fire Wood Fuel Pellets has set the industry’s GOLD STANDARD of wood pellet fuel. Our time-tested consistent production methods ensure that every bag you purchase contains the lowest moisture content, highest heat and lowest ash wood pellet fuel available because we hand select our raw materials ensuring that each and every pellet is made from 100% Douglas Fir.
You won’t find another pellet that is dried to our industry leading low moisture content of less than 2.5%, and unprecedented average of only 1.9%! Less moisture means you don’t have to burn off excess water in the pellets which results in more heat, heating your home faster, and an extremely low ash content that makes it easier to cleanup. Check out more details below and remember that when you’re heating with wood pellets, you’re leaving a smaller carbon footprint which means great things for our environment.
Summary
I LOVE THESE PELLETS! I hope that even under the new ownership I get spoiled with these arriving in the mail again. I need to update the pics and info…

I have used Golden Fire Pellets since 2006. First was a Thelen Stove, now using an Enviro Stove. Golden Fire puts out the best heat, and burns the cleanest of them all. I’ve tried some cheaper brands, but for the heat, Golden Fire tops them all. I liked the heat from hardwood pellets, but, they plugged up the ash pot. Also Golden Fire Pellets burn cleaner keeping the Glass Door clean much longer!!
Not a review but just a comment. This is my second year with a pellet stove and from looking at reviews it seems its hit or miss on quality if you’re looking for low cost with quality. Bought a ton of Golden fire. Store offered three levels of quality with only a $5.00 difference per ton. ??? It’s hard to believe there will be a difference between them. Golden fire was the top brand offered.
I would not know… I placed an inquery with this company to bulk buy Golden Fire pellets over 6 months a go but they never got back to me… Poor customer service =’s poor management =’s potentially poor product.
We ended up going with your competition (linetics) who was happy to answer my email and set up a bulk delivery..
Customer Service is the face of a company… What’s your face been ip to??
I have been using packsaddle pellets for 2 years. I find them to be the best out there. Less ash hot burning. I would recommend everyone to compare different type of wood pellets for them. Find what works and let others know your suggestion.
I use golden fire pellets and use a Quadra Fire stove. My problem is that some of the pellets cause a blockage at the auger feed and stops the stove from operating. This is my only complaint. I have used premium blazer pelets in the past with no problems but the extra cost and travel is the reason for changing to golden fire. Not to sure that this was a good decision due to the sleepless nights of baby sitting the stove to keep it fired up.
Golden Fire is our preferred choice. This year we are having problems with the pellets not turning to ash. They are burnt, but stay in the pellet form causing us to have to cool off the stove and clean it out far too often.
For those asking about using Bear Mountain/Golden Fire pellets in a BBQ grill. No, they are not intended to be used in a BBQ. Bear Mountain does make hard wood pellets specifically for grills though. Various types can be bought, Apple, Oak, Ash, Mesquite etc.
We have been burning 2.5 to 3 tons per year since 2009. Golden Fire pellets put out the most heat and produce the least amount of ash compared to any other pellet we have used over the last 4 years.
I have had a pellet stove since 1992 and over the years have used numerous brands of which I have been the most pleased with Golden Fire. A few years ago there was a shortage of pellets and I had to burn various brands (Blazer, Lignetics, etc.) They were okay, but none seemed to burn as clean as Golden Fire including the more expensive Lignetics pellets. The worst brand that sells for about $1 less per bag was Mallard. The ash from the Mallard brand gummed up the burn tray and glass got dirty quite quickly. I would rather pay the extra $1 bag for Golden Fire.
I’ve used and loved Golden Fire for 20 years. This year is different. They don’t heat as well as they used to.
