Ruth: The stove has a drop rating that tells you what setting drops how much. It is not the pellets that control the stove. Most stoves have a “trim” setting you can set for different types and size pellets, because they are not all the same. Get the manual and look for the trim setting and use that to control burn as well as using the burn rate setting. This winter I went through 9 tons so far far more than the normal 6 tons due to the excessive cold. The number 2 out of 5 setting was not enough so almost all winter the stove ran at setting number 3 instead of most of the winter at setting 2.
I’ve used 4 brands this winter. This is one of the best. Have used pro pellet multiple times. Happy with every bag.
We just purchased a harmen pellet insert and bought a ton of pro pellets, put 40 lb. in around 10:30 today, set it at 2 and have went thru a half bag and it’s only 7:30, is that normal? I was told they would last at least 24 hrs., if this keeps up it will be really expensive!
Can’t find any in traverse city michigan. Dealer is out. Help me out.
Same thing with us Bryan. We have a King 5500M. ProPellet batch 11-13 doesn’t burn well at all. They are black burnt pieces, hardly any ash.
We normally clean our stove every 3 – 4 days, but with this batch it seems like every day!! Can’t wait until we use them all to get new ones.
I have a St Croix 060 pellet furnace and I vacuum weekly but this last ton of pellets didn’t burn good I had to turn the setting up to four to get some good heat out of them I think the date code is 11-13.
I went and got some more pro pellets to see if they would be different and those work perfectly on setting two so it must of been something different with that batch?
Have used Pro Pellets for five seasons, use 3-4 tons per year. lowest ash content I have found. I use a Avalon or Lopi wood pellet insert so low ash is very important to reduce the frequency of cleaning. Pro Pellets are they best in this regard. Last year we notice much more dust in the house from the pellets themselves. This is year is the much worse. Wife says change pellets to reduce the dust or stop using the stove. This was not the case my first three years and from what I can recall these are the years the pellets came from the Indiana area.
This is my third season with my Lopi Leyden and burn a ton or so a winter. Through research from this site I found Pro Pellets and have had good heat normally at a medium burn rate with minimal ash compared to Easy pellet which burned poorly and lots of ash. I clean my stove at least once a week. I would like to see if there are better pellets although I have no problem with the Pro Pellet.

I burned several different type of pellets. Pro Pellet is the only ones I buy low ash and lots of heat. Keep up the Good Work Regards Scott
