Well, I was going to call the company to complain also. They burn ok except they form a hard cake like chunk.Having made my own pellets for two years I think I know a bit about them. The problem with Canwick I think is that they use too much binder. When I lift one of those cakes, the bottom is shiny and hard “looks like hardened molasses”. I also am dissatisfied with the pellet. However, being an ex New Brunswicker, I will give them another chance next year. I don’t know what they have for a pellet making machine but using alot of binder is a sign of a weak machine which cannot push through the wood mixture in the die. If that is not the case, then they are using too much binder anyways. I must admit that I had been using Cubex for five years and they have what I call “the cadillac” of pellets. Believe me I tried them all. So Canwick please look into the problem. I cannot leave my stove running all night without it shutting down because it cakes on me. I am sure that, as a responsible company you will look into the problem and solve it for us. By the way my stove is a Whitfield.

Hi there: Make of our stove Englands Stove Works 25-PAH/55SHPAH
We have been buying Canawick Hardwood Pellets for 6-7 months. The last bunch we bought Canawick were horrid to say the least They were really short, a much lighter color cosmetically, would crumble easily in your fingers, did not have the same sheen to them as other times we purchased. Overflow the burn pot constantly, odour coming out of front ventilation grill smells like burnt plastic, they completely cover the glass in our stove thick soot within 5 minutes. The outside vent pipes were completely clogged within a couple days with thick black soot. We have never experienced this before. In the companies defence I think quality control must have inspected this lot on a late Friday afternoon. I hope Canawick can get their act together and return to their high quality pellets.
I like my stove clean and am a fanatic about it. Outside pipes cleaned every 2-3 weeks. Burn pot removed once daily and inspected for clogged holes. Vacuum it every couple of days.
I hope this helps fellow pellet stove owners and Cdn. Tire send last shipment back as this seems to be a most recent problem 2012

Deb
I have had a witfield pellet stove for 12 years. I have tried many diferent kinds of pellets. I must say that the canawick pellets are the worst I have ever purchased. I agree with Kim when she says that she has to clean her stove in 12 hours. I never have to clean my stove more than once a week when using other pellets. I do like the heat these pellets produce but they do not burn clean.
Everybody should give Canawick another try. The company bagged the wrong pellets in Dec. 2011. They made the correction, and now they burn hot & clean.
These pellets are AWFUL! They do burn pretty hot but they totally fill the burn pot with this one hard mass causing the pot to overflow and the fire to nearly go out. So all that heat is lost having to shut the stove down to clean it every 16 hours, and then we burn more getting the house back up to temp. Stay away from these.
We have 2 stoves, a glow boy and quadrafire. We have been using New England Pellets for 6 years now and love them. We decided to buy a ton of Canawick wood pellets and are not liking them. With the New England, we could go 3 days before cleaning our burning pots and with the Canawick we can’t go 24 hours. In fact, on a cold night, the ash build up from these pellets makes us clean our stoves in 12 hours. The canawicks pellets burn a lot faster too. Our stoves are cleaned on a regular basis and we have never had this problem before.
My pellet supplier switched from Barefoot pellets to Canawick this year. I have found that I strongly prefer Barefoot (even for the extra money).
The Canawick pellets are less dense (the 40lb bags fill my pellet more than the barefoot), and the bags have much more dust/wood powder in the bags. They don’t seem to burn as long pound for pound.
My stove is a Harman Eccentra. I take apart and clean my stove every year, including the piping and clean the burn pot after every couple of bags.
Just bought a bag of these from Canadian Tire. $4.99 here, nice heat from them!
best pellets i have ever used hope cdn tire carrys them next year
The store that I get my regular pellets were out. So I was by Canadian Tire so I bought a couple of bags Canawick pellets. They were a little high in price. $6.00 CDN per bag. But they burn really hot in my Qudra-fire. They are cleaner than Cubex. I would like to find them for a cheaper price and buy a ton of them.
