Low maintenance burner – This patent pending technology has an agitator rod in the burn pot that breaks up any clinker or ash and helps move it into the ash pan. This greatly reduces cleaning intervals and also allows you to burn lesser quality, inexpensive pellets and alternate fuels.
Quick start ignitor with air pump
Quietest pellet stove in the industry – (40 – 45 dB at 10 ft. away)
Fluted cast iron firebox liner
Built-in floor protection – no hearth pad required
We bought an Enviro M55 insert, matte black, several months ago. We too, have found that this thing seems to consume pellets way too fast. My brother has a pellet stove as well and he keeps his house way warmer than ours, and his max is 2.5 bags a day. On heat setting 3, we will go through a 40 lb bag in 6-7 hours. And that’s only heat setting 3, this thing goes up to 5.
Other than the pellet consumption issue, I absolutely love this stove. But it remains to be seen whether this thing is saving us money over burning oil since we got a high efficiency boiler installed recently.
The fan is very quiet and the auger noise is fairly infrequent. Ours is near a TV as well and I don’t find it interferes with watching/listening.
Today we will try running it in multi-fuel mode while burning premium pellets. Maybe we should have gone with the Harman after all.
Any ideas why my M55 Enviro after cleaning it tonight will not work.I cleaned my outside Vent which I never had before with the brush, came in and cleaned the inside as usual every 3 days and the module light inside blinks on #2 with the fan running. It ran perfect until I shut it down. Any ideas? I blew the line outside and the line inside to see if that made a difference, even emptied the pellets out of the hopper..Maybe a module problem or Auger problem..Help,it’s getting cold
I live in MA, Just purchased M55 insert with enam. finish, It has not been cold out, the stove was installed 12/6/11- today 12/23/11- I have gone through 2/3 of a ton i 20 days , and the temp has not been below 30 degrees, my home is 6800 s/f- my first floor which the stove is installed is 3l s/f – the 2nd floor heats up asap about 2500 s/f- my concern is that it burns the petts up fast, on 3 or 4 setting, 20 lbs lasts 4 hour at max, on 5 2.5 to 3 hours- and it needs to be cleaned much more often then they clain, every other day, or every 5 to 7 bags.
TO the consumer with the rapid amount of pellets the unit is burning up….
Have you considered that this issue could be a air issue to the unit? It could be possible that maybe there is to much or to little air being supplied to the unit. The dealer should be using a magnahelic gauge while the stove is running to tune it up properly. The unit could possibly need more fresh air supplied to the unit as well. Just a few suggestions. I could be wrong myself.
We have an m55 and have been using it for a couple months We just had the wireless thermostat put in and i think it may have been a waste of money..we will see, anyway the installer said he has heard that running it with premium pellets in multi fuel mode makes the stove run better, is this true. Also we have a problem with pellets building up and back into the mouth of the feeder opening, any ideas
I have owned the Enviro M55 Multi Fuel Pellet insert for about 1 year now. I have burned about 4 tons of pellets through this stove to give you a sense of how much use I am basing my review on. Overall this is a pretty nice looking stove and is very quiet. The auger motor noise that people talk about is real but I have it close to a TV so I don’t tend to hear it too much. The biggest problem I have with this stove is the consumption of pellets that this beast eats. I can fill the hopper to the brim,,, which is not quiet a full bag but about 30 lbs out of the 40lbs and it runs out in 5 or 6 hours depending on the settings. Faster if you run it above 4 on the heat level. I was also told by the reps that I must use premium quality pellets. I burn either Okinagas, Barefoots, or Lignetics – all high premium pellets and it just doesn’t matter. I can not run this stove over night or during the day when I am not home since it runs dry and shuts down. No matter what setting I run the stove at, I am not able to get this thing to last over night. I am so disappointed with this stove that my wife and I are considering selling it at a huge loss and replacing it with something that gets more hours out of a bag of pellets then the M55 does. If Sherwood can resolve this consumption issue then I would give it high marks but up too now my dealer has no solution and tells me just to keep feeding pellets into it. I hope this review is helpful to you and I would recommend that for all future buyers you ask the question of consumption for this stove. Good luck
Stove ignites well and the blowers are quiet enough but the auger which runs every time pellets are required is noisy. Very distracking and tends to ruin the mood of a nice fire. Wouldn’t have bought it if this noisy auger was realized beforehand.
I bought an Enviro M55 insert last year during the tax break. What a mistake, the only good thing I have to say is that my dealer is great and is now replacing this stove for me on his own dime. Evidently there are two different types of pellets (West coast and East coast) and are different sizes, well this stove is made for the west coast pellets. I have burned through pellets rapidly and the high temperature alarm has been tripped multiple times until it finally broke. The representatives have sent a feed choker that needs to be installed and the stove needs to be taken apart rivets and all to instal. Well my installer balked at doing this in my residence and now the reps are giving him crap about it. There have been numerous other problems with this stove due to the pellet problem which included a blower fans bushings melting due to the heat that was produced. Over all a very bad purchase, if it wasn’t for my installer I would be SOL. This company just does not care.
Works great, very quiet, and it fires up in about two minutes. I researched this unit before purchasing and I think it will kick a Harmen in a heartbeat for far less money. i am a certified installer/repair person and I think this is a great value and it’s user friendly. ps I have no problem letting this unit go for a couple weeks without cleaning (I just had to try this)

non existent service support from the company, regional distributor and dealer/installer for a faulty brand new stove – a major disappointment
