Worse 2 ton I have ever have. Been burning for 9yrs. No heat, lots of clinkers. Just bad. Maybe a somewhat shoulder pellet if temps are above 40deg. Not happy at all. I have gotten some bad pellets in the past but these are by far the worse I have baught. Don’t get them.
Breckwell 2700, have for 14 years, still going strong. Open concept 1500+ sq/ft heats well thru out winter in Pa. Use approx 2.5 – 3 ton a winter. I have not tried Cheat Creek pellets from this year, (could not fined in our area) But had 1.25 ton left from last year and I have had no problems, great heat, next to no ash or sut build up. This year I had to settle for Pennington Natures Heat, tried and was not happy, had to adjust draft to a lower setting( burned way to fast, and had to set to a faster trim), had to run stove on a higher setting and still did not get the BTU I was use to. Glad I saved the Cheat Creek for the colder part of the winter. I hear a lot of comments on how pellets seem to change from time to time within the same brand.. My brother inlaw worked for Americam pellet company locally for a number of years, ( until they closed). Seems there are a lot of factors that effect the quality of pellets. If pellets did not meet standard at American, they did not release them as a named brand, but sold them as below standard (to much moisture, bark used , mixed woods, machinery not cleaned between runs, settings not correct for that run, testing neglected before to many were made, etc.) This and a few other factors attribute to a poorly made pellet. Yes I had to adjust settings on my stove, and clean a little more. But at $100.00 a ton for out of spec, (compared to $225.00 – $250.00 a ton) that still provided the BTU I wanted to heat my home, I will. Wish they still were here. I have yet over the last 14 years of use found a brand that was consistent. I’ m not saying they aren’t out there, some are for a number of years. Maybe it was just a bad run that was shipped. But let’s face it, once you order a few ton that did not work as well as other years we tend to look for a better pellet. Good luck to all and stay warm.
I have used this brand for the last 3 years they have been very good but this years I got 6 ton from lowes and they all are burning badly a lot of ash + build up in burn pan we have 2 lowes stoves + a lopie brand + we keep them clean they are all doing this so whats up also the outside of the bags were wet in 2 of the tons + the pellets break easly too
I have a Harmon P43 stove and tried Cheat River pellets for the first time . These are by far one of the best I have used. Went back to Lowes and and bought a ton Good product
Been running a Harman P61 for 5 years heating an open 2500 sq ft hse the stove is more than I could ask for, a piece of engineering, however we had a real shortage of pellets this winter , burned 3 tons and had to settle for 15 bags of ” cheat river ” at Lowes these are by far the worst I have ever used ashes like I have never witnessed before !!!! I have used 15 – 20 different brands through 5 years and can say this with 100% certainty Would like to have someone from this company stop by & show I’ll them what garbage they have The bag says ” low ash content ” these people are just plain greedy & I hope this letter gets there attention, PEOPLE, DO NOT BUY THESE FOR ANY PRICE……………..
Well, I was a little skeptical at first but something made me try these. After burning Okie Doug Firs it’s hard to compare any pellet, but I gave it a shot. Boy was I surprised! Picked up a few bags at Lowes because they just got a huge delivery in. Did a full cleaning including vent pipe. What a clean burning pellet! I was shocked. These pellets I have to say actually burned cleaner in the pot than the Okies. Great heat, cleanest burn pot I have ever seen even after 12 bags running 24/7 at heat setting 3. The only downside is that they do generate about twice the ash of the okies. Maybe 2-1/2 times the ash. This is a nuisance, but for $4.18/bag compared to the $7.35/bag for Doug Fir I’ll deal with it! Glass has also stayed as clean as the Doug Firs. So I ordered 4 tons and will store the remaining for next year. Jamestown J2000. Love it!
bought 5 bags to try these pellets,They burn really good real lively flame very low ash and real good heat.kept my glass clean to.Will buy a ton or two of these at lowes.4.59 by the bag.

This pellets are HORRIBLE. My P68 front door blew off and my combustor is all carboned up. Not mention my heat converter won’t convert anymore.
