These pellets use to be great, what a disappointment this year. They definitely changed the composition of their pellets. I had some from last year and they were hard and compact, this year I can break them up with my fingers. I’ll never buy these pellets again!!
I’ve been burning Fireside Ultra’s from Home Depot for 4-5 years. For the first time, I need to clean out a soft ash klinker out of the burnpot daily (or more frequently). I used to leave the stove alone for days on end, but not with the Firesides I bought last November-December. Also, there’s a thick ring of ash accumulates around the top of the burnpot and eventually drops onto the burning pellets. This only happened with this years product, the 3/4 ton left over from 2017 burned great!! Looks like I can’t buy Fireside Ultra’s blindly anymore, they are no longer a consistent product.
Have burned these off an on over the years and they have aways been at least decent. Burned some of these last year (17/18 heating season) and they were great. Decent heat and minimal heavy ash in the burn pot (Harmon P68). Burned way better than a shipment of Cleanfire Pacific last year. They were abysmal. I went to Firesides as my Primary for this year and bought a few tones. Unfortunitly they are not burning well. The heat is decent but they are leaving heavy grity ash buildup in the burnpot needing frequent raking throught out the day or the flame gets lazy and dirty. The pellet is completly different than last year. Last year the pellet was a light brown, this year they are very dark speckled. Makes me wonder if they are mixing in bark as a filler. Whatever it is the carbon leftover is heavy. I’ve been burning pellets for about 20 years. I really hate when pellet companies switch product and quality from one year to another. Makes it a roulette game every year. It’s a pain. I would suggest staying away from Firesides this year.
I have been burning fireside pellet’s for around 15 years I burn 5 ton a year this year it will be around 6 to 7 ton the ash is so bad I have to shut my stove down once a week to clean it out.
I’ve been buying about 12 bags of fireside ultra every week or so for the last 12 weeks. Just bought another 12 bags and after opening the 1st one found the product appears completely different – the pellet color changed from pretty dark (darker than the pic on this site to very light (lighter than the pic on this site), indicating they changed the wood source. Doesn’t seem right to do that. Don’t know how they will burn. But does anyone know how to contact the manufacturer?
Decent heat, very few fines per bag, very little soot on glass, but much more ash this year than the last two. All in all though I would buy again and am satisfied that these Home Depot pellets are a good value at a decent product.
My stove is an Enviro. I bought 4 tons of Fireside Ultra this year. Burns well. Put out good heat. Produces lots of soot and ash. Have to shut down stove every other day to empty the burn pot. The ash forms like a brick. Glass in stove become pitch black. I cleaned chimney as well as all air ways in stove. Purchased 2 bags of Green Team Platinum..hardwood 2 days ago to compare. Apples and oranges: There’s no comparison. The Green Team Platinum is far superior. Have been burning the Green Team 2 days. No ash in burn pot. Will have to go back to Ultra. Purchased at HomeDepot in Littleton. Will go back to Green Team at Lowes next season. I know 1 product is hard wood while the other is soft wood. Might be the difference.
we in NH are in a real cold snap as all know..we have had a pellet stove for many years are 80 years young so he KNOWS the in and outs..Just want you to know that so far Fireside ultra keeps us the warmest of ALL and we have tried them all…lol Keep making this wonderful product..
1/2/18 burned 2 pallets (out of 4) in my Napoleon NPI45 Insert so far this heating season. The FSU pellet produces good heat. I would guess the ash content is average to many other pellets. I clean my insert 2x per week. Satisfied with the heat/price/delivery. 🙂

How do I recycle the bags?
What does #/4 \mean in the bags mean?
Do I put them w/plastic grocery bags? Or w/my regular recycling?
