Summary
Sept 2019 – Got the bag in the mail a few weeks ago and put them in the hopper ASAP. Once the nights started to get colder these were a Blazin!. Fantastic pellet as usual! these are always one of my favs. Hardwood flooring companies can put out some of the best pellets. Kiln dried oak is always a pleaser. If you like these pellets then also check out Turman wood pellets or Greenway wood pellets.
I love these pellets. When you can find them at Depot, GRAB THEM!

I have a new englander pellet dove that I’ve use for 3 seasons. I purchased it new on a spring close out. It heats decent but does not light every time on its own. I’ve also replaced the bottom motor and auger the second season. I like the stove but I would look for a better brand if I were to buy again. I got it for 1/2 price so I’m not going to complain. I thought I might have gotten a lemon but my dad has had the same problems with his.
I started using these in 2009 here in Indiana. They were at Menards. I loved them. Hands down the best . They beat soft woods any day. My stove would get so hot I was scared. My neighbor used them in his and it tripped off on hi limit (HI TEMP) I burned them with corn and the flame was great. The heat was sometimes UNBEARABLE. Cant get them any more. No dealers here
This is our 3rd year buying and using somerset pellets. The first 2 year they burnt great. This year they are AWEFUL! I have contacted the company to see if they stand behind their product. We are having to clean the stove and ash pot daily where in the past we easily went 4-5 days. Very disappointing.
I’ve burned Somerset for the last three years and think they are the
best. Agree with the poster that said this years batch is worse than
past years. This is the first year I’ve had buildup in the burn pot
and more ash than past years. Still good though but not super
this year. Burn in a Breckwell insert.
We have burnt lignetics, boo to them. Clinkers with a terrible burn. We have been burning Okanogan, very nice hot clean pellet to burn, can run the pellet stove for a 14 day cycle before cleaning to stove. The glass door is a tad ashey, but for the constant filling of it, not a worry in the world.Cannot get Okanogan pellets on the east coast right now. So, Trying these somerset pellets out, we will see.
Bought a used Hastings St. Croix the season befor this. Had all kinds of problems with soot and clinkers. Had to do a serious cleaning every day. Stove repair expert told me they’re a tempermental stove. Was burning Green Supreme pellets from Lowe’s. This year bought 4 tons of pellets from Lowe’s and discovered they were Somerset. Hadn’t heard of them but now can go 3-4 days between cleanings. My stove guy affirmed that Somerset is the best and I was lucky to get them. Hope Lowe’s has them again next season. Plan to buy a Harman P68 (new) this summer so I don’t have to worry so much about a finicky stove and can go longer without filling the hopper. Hastings is working fine now but I don’t know what I did to make it so. Think when I closed the air intake slightly the stove started burning clean and for long periods of time, but not sure. Just the blind squirrel thing. Did discover almost inaccessible air passages to clean with bent dairy brush.
Anyhow, I’m loving the Somerset pellets.
I am new to the pellet world, I have a Breckwell P23 Insert, I have read the manual through and through and would have to say I have a small case of OCD when it comes to maintenance of my pellet stove.
I started the season off with Somerset Pellets and was spoiled, loved them, burnt very hot and clean, very little fines if any. Due to local store having New England and no one having Somerset anymore I went with a ton of the New England. Wish I would of searched out and purchased more of the somerset.
I will definitely be looking for Somerset come next season. Great Pellet
We have always used Somerset pellet and had great heat and limited ash but this year there is so much ash. We have a Quadrafire stove which we clean daily and the amount of ash is unbelievable. We are very disappointed in the quality of the product this year.
I have an Englander Summer’s Heat. Didn’t like the Somerset precisely because they are so small, I got what I call pot creep, where the fire starts out small and lively, but after several hours, the pot is full and pellets don’t seem to burn completely. Have to keep removing ash and clinkers, then finally shut stove down so it burns what’s in the pot (doesn’t burn completely). Have the opening in the hopper adjusted as small as possible. Other brands from Lowe’s are much longer, thought this would help with the creep problem, but doesn’t seem to matter what brand I use. And, this is on the lowest setting. Didn’t notice any more heat with Somerset, either.
